Thinking about booking the Wonder out of Galveston for next New Years 2017 into '18.
Who has cruised over the holiday before? is it worth the extra $2000? I think it would be fantastic to spend new years day on castaway cay and new years eve on the ship, but just curious how others experiences were.

TIA

Rick

I got extra's if that is what your interested in. Also nice to have time that did not interfere with school.

just curious on how the whole experience went, it would be the first time spending a holiday away from other parts of the family and what not... the school thing is mainly why i'm thinking about going at that time. did they do anything "special" on new years ever or anything like that?

We have cruised over new years on princess. It was one of my favorite cruises ever. So much fun and didn't interfere with school. Worth the extra money for sure. Keep in mind though...I was happy when the 1st was an at sea day to recover from the very late-very fun new years eve. If I had to get up and go to the beach that day...It wouldn't have been so awesome lol.

Yes they have dance party's, fireworks, chocolate box, drink, large print for framing, party favor, something special with dinner, early party for the little ones. Don't remember NYDay though.

i'll be with a 5 year old so other than being tired the day on the beach shouldn't be too bad, plus my daughter and I don't sleep much as it is...

We were on the Fantasy over New Years. It was nice because we were able to spend Christmas at home and then had the trip. They did the fireworks on NYE instead of Pirate night.

Love being on DCL for NYE and have done it many times. It has just gotten too expensive to justify the cost for us. Our last NYE was in the inside cabins and it was a tad over $10K for the 4 of us. That was my limit and my last NYE cruise. As with all things DCL, the party has the count down at midnight and by 12:30 almost everyone is gone to bed and the staff is cleaning up. If you go, you'll have a great time.

the one i'm looking at is 5k for the 3 of us and I think that is pushing it, thats why i was asking if its worth the exra money, and if everyone enjoyed the holiday on the ship... i'lll keep an eye on the prices and see... We cruise this year on December 2nd maybe i'll book while on board

Were there more fireworks? I am considering next year.

We cruised over New Year's and enjoyed it. We didn't spend an extra $2,000, though. I wouldn't spend that much extra.

Are the NYE fireworks longer in duration than Pirate Night fireworks?

We cruised out of Galveston for NYE 2012-2013. It was a six night and for the three of us, I think it was a little over $5K. We totally thought it was worth the extra money. The NYE party was awesome, the fireworks seemed more impressive than usual pirate night ones. Dinner that night was lobster tails (as much as you could possibly eat) and there was champagne involved. We also had a beautiful lithograph in our our room upon turning in for the night.

Thanks for the response, and the details... i'm leaning towards doing it, we are going on the Wonder this December 2nd and probably will book then.

What i mean by "extra" money is, the same cruise itinerary but 3 weeks earlier or later is about 3k for the 3 of us and 5k for the 3 of us over NYE...

I was searching for info on regarding Christmas decorations still being up over New Year's and it seems like no... this makes it sound long gone?

OP - we're doing the 7 day Wonder out of Galveston this coming Dec/Jan (almost 90 days out, woohoo!). My middle schooler would kill me if we pulled her out for a cruise during a school week, and we happened to have a winter break that starts and runs late this year. So while I couldn't compare to off season rates, it wasn't awful as far as DCL rates go, and it was actually pretty comparable to other cruiselines' rates - who have a much bigger mark-up to sail over NYE compared to their usual fares. Also, I did see that the 2017-18 cost was essentially the same. My parents had something come up and we thought we might have to postpone, so I checked on that a month ago.

On our cruise that left December 28, the decorations for Christmas were taken down.
