I thought I remembered receiving a mailing some time in the past year that announced that you could use points to cruise in a Category 3 cabin. I even remember thinking the points were really high. Now I cannot find the mailing and everywhere I look says you can't do this. Am I crazy or does someone else remember this?
We were planning on renting out our points for a Dec. 2005 cruise since we didn't think we could use them for this category. I don't want to start any debate about renting points, etc. but at this point I am not sure if I want the hassle of renting out the points unless I knew I could just transfer them to someone. Does anyone have a chart or remember this too?

I remember this as well, but I didn't keep it. Just call MS with your dates and they will tell you how many points you'll need.

Yes, you can use your pts for a cat. 3.

I callled a while ago and asked about a 7 night cruise next November and the points for a cat. 3 were around twice as much as what was needed to book a cat. 4. I don't remember the exact amount.

Just call MS and give them your dates and they will tell you exactly how many pts. it will take for a cat. 3.

If you end up going on a cruise and staying in a cat. 3, please let us know how you like it.

Thank you for the response, atleast I know I am not totally crazy.

floridafam,
We took the 4-day cruise last Jan. and used points for a cat. 6. Once at the port we upgraded to a cat. 3. Big mistake! Now there is no turning back. We loved having the extra space and the conciege service just spoiled us. When we first boarded, concierge took care of everything for us and we just relaxed, no running around. Our verandah was huge. We were in the far aft in the last handicap room. My husband felt so spoiled that he insisted we get a cat. 3 on our next cruise. Now I am just worried we won't get it and feel we are missing out.

If I can ask, how did you upgrade at check in? Was that with cash, or more points?

We paid cash at check-in to upgrade. We just asked if there were any available and the cast member call another desk to check. Once she said yes, we moved over to the other desk to complete check-in.
When we booked our cruise we booked the best room we could afford with our points. We would have been very happy with our room. The cash we paid was definitely significantly less than the difference in cost between the rooms originally, but I do not remember exactly how much. From what I understand it is not usual for many rooms to be available for upgrade, but we were cruising in January during the off-season. I think you should book the room you really want, then an upgrade at the port is just icing on the cake. For our Dec. trip we are booking a cat. 3 if available because we know we really want it and don't want to chance it not being available later.
