We've been going to Disney for my DD b-day since she turned 5 y.o. Her b-day is in the very beginning of September - so we usually go down in the end of August right before school starts...last year we were trapped for a couple of days in the Yacht Club during Hurricane Frances but it really was no bother since we were well taken care of and had already been down for about 9 days prior to bad weather....Anyway, next year for her 10th b-day I thought it might be fun to go to Euro Disney in Paris (every year she expects to go to "Disney" - so we were going to plan as if were we all going to Orlando but surprise her at the airport when we board a flight to Paris -- after what happened in London - I'm wondering if it's worth it to travel overseas. We would not only stay at Euro Disney but probably want to stay in the city proper itself for other types of sight seeing and split the trip up...now we're pretty reluctant to go overseas....That being said I would go back to WDW but I love to change it up each year and especially since it is her 10th b-day I wanted to do something extra special -- so perhaps a cruise ....that's where all you guys come in --- My only problem is again I would travel at the end of August for her b-day and I would be afraid of being hit with a hurricane --- has anyone traveled that time of year -- what is the best cruise to take - 4/3 day , 7 day ??- we own at the BCV and BW so that's where we normally stay on land -- I guess it's a toss up between potentially getting hit by mother nature or by some psychopathic fundamentalist -- anyway, your thoughts would be helpful to my decision....thanks :wave2:

40 days and 40 nights til we get to WDW ::MickeyMo

We cruised last year during Hurricane Jeanne. It wasn't all that bad. Seas were a little choppy and rough, but that was the worst of it. DCL took really good care of us: updating us throughout the cruise on the hurricane's position, they went out of the way to go around it, we missed Castaway Cay on the last day, but that was ok too. We made it make to Port Canaveral at 10 pm Friday night, we were put up in the Dolphin for the night, got ship credit, I don't remember if we got a partial refund, but we did get a 50% off voucher for a cruise within the next year. Overall, DCL handled everything very well.

Either way you choose to go, hurricanes or psychos, you never know, that is the chance we take living in the world we live in. There's always a risk, but if you don't take the risk, you end up with no life. And chances are nothing will happen.

We've cruised the third week of August in 2003 and 2004, and had nice weather and mostly calm seas both years. We will be cruising again in August 2006, doing the double dip at Castaway Cay.

Thanks for the insights ... we live right outside of NYC - about 30 mins on the train -- we are well aware of the toll 911 has taken on us and knew at least three people (very close friends) that were in the towers and didn't make it out --- maybe I'd rather take a chance on screwing with mother nature - than take the lives of our children into our hands by a trip to Europe -- you're right there are no guarantees -- anything could happen -- we love travelling and are not going to give it up -- just don't want to be too risky after what happened in London I just feel like there's a storm a comin' out there and it's a man-made one--- The cruise sounds great ....any tips on which cruise to do that time of year -- outside cabin vs. inside cabin - we're 2 adults and 2 kiddies (one to be 10 years and the other to be 6 - don't want to be cramped but how much time could you spend in the room anyway.... pirate:

I have never cruised during hurricane season... but my understanding is that they will change itinerary if necessary to avoid the storm. I have been to Euro Disney... and although it was nice to see another Disney park... I would take the cruise over it any day!

The wonderful thing about Disney is that all the staterooms (other than the suites) pretty much have the same set up for a family of 4 so it is unlikely you will be cramped not matter what category you choose. That being said...it is sooo nice to sit on the verandah late at night while the little ones are in bed sleeping (or watching cartoons like my little darlings). It is also nice to sit out there in the morning and watch the happenings as you pull into different ports.

As for which cruise...well that depends on where you're interested in traveling or whether you want to do a 3, 4, or 7 day cruise. The Wonder does 3 & 4 day cruises to the Bahamas & the Magic does 7 day cruises to the Eastern & Western Caribbean. You can view the different itineraries on the DCL website.

Bon Voyage!
