Has anyone on this board have any experience with CruiseLine Formal? We are going on our first cruise this summer and I don't mind getting dressed up, but I have no use after the cruise for a tux, so I'm looking at renting one.

Also, has any used them to rent a child's tux? It's possible that DS 11, might actually wear one.

Just curious.

My husband rented his tux from cruiseline formal last Feb. About an hour after we got to our room, it arrived. It was a teriffic experience. Will do it again this Feb. Didn't rent for my DS 11 and 12 last year they wore blue sportcoats that they had for my brother's wedding. We may this year if they're willing. We did see several young gentlemen in tuxes.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if we will DS 11 to wear one but we just might try.

Some consider it a pain to pack but for less than the cost of renting, check out eBay. We got all of our tuxes there & now we're ready for our next cruise!

I don't know if DCL's formal rentals are managed by the same company as RCI, but in 3/01 I rented a basic black tux through the contracted rental agency for RCI, and it was the WORST tux I have ever, ever worn anywhere in my life. It literally, no joke, was held together by a safety pin and i recall some kind of cigarette hole or burn on a shirt sleeve. It was sooooo bad! And I just didn't want to deal with it, so I got it to stay together long enough to wear it rather than try to find someone to ask for a credit and skip wearing one.

The worst part is that I own a tux, but that cruise was sailing out of San Juan and I did not want the added hassle of additional packing and wrinkling, and all that so I treated myself. Taking my own this time since I just have to put it into the SUV and drive to the Port. DS, 6, is years away from formalwear.

Hope that is of some value.

As others have said - check out your options. EBay is one source, S&K Menswear (I think they are a national chain) is another. A couple of years back it turned out that hubby was going to need a tux about once a year for a special event. Could purchase complete outfit (except for shoes) from S&K for just a bit more than renting a comparable. And it fits him. They also offered lifetime tailoring if (within the parameters available) it needed taking in or letting out.

For DS (will be almost 16 when we sail) we will be renting. He is changing size/shape too fast with football, etc. to invest yet. Although price would be comparable I don't want to have to dispose of it when he can no longer wear it! :p
