Cruise Upgrade if using points?

I've booked a 7 night western disney cruise using my points for next year. I've also just been reading an interesting thread regarding paying for upgrades at the port for very cheap prices. My question is this has any of you tried this when you have booked using points, should it make a difference?

We booked a category 9 on points this past July. When I got to the port terminal, I asked if there were any upgrades available and was sent down to the end of the counter. For $350 we were upgraded to a category 5. WOW!

We did the same. We went the week before Easter and I didn't really expect anything to be available. Surprisingly, we were able to upgrade at port from a cat. 10 to a cat 6 for about $500. Plus, it was a handicapped suite (no tub was not an issue) and was huge! Our verandah was directly beneath the "secret" deck on deck 7--it was gigantic!!

points or cash, by time you get to the port it doesn't matter. We did it because we decided we did want a verandah but didn't want to pay to change the reservation. So we figured we take our chances.

Our upgrade was also to a handicapped room. It was so huge, our friends in a regular category 6 room were jealous.

We have had similar experiences. We were upgraded from a Cat 9 to a Cat 7 for a few hundred dollars. It was not handicapp accessible.

The staff at the upgrade counter do not care how you paid for the cruise. They have a chart that shows the price between catagories. They charge everyone the same price.
