I am looking at renting a car at MCO and returning it at Port Canaveral for our upcoming disney cruise. Has anyone done this? Do I need to reserve this in advance or do I just walk up and try to get them to do this for me? I have searched online to try to do this through expedia, but haven't found how to do the one-way rental.
Any thoughts?:confused3

We did it last year. We had one-way rentals thru Hertz to the Cape and back. It worked out fine, I think Hertz, Budget, and Dollar have offices in Cape Canaveral. We drove to the Hertz office and then took their shuttle right to the Port (about a 5-10 minute ride).

Some crusiers take the car to the Port and then one person returns the car to the rental company and rides back on the shuttle.

Good luck.

Check out the website for various car rental companies. Some have shuttle service between their port offices and the ships..others don't. You will need to know that going in.
Many people book two one way cars...they drop their party, with luggage, off at the ship, return the car to the rental office and hop on the shuttle headed back to the ship. Then, when the cruise is over, just take the bags and group on the shuttle back to the office from the ship, and go on your merry way.

I'd also recommend to book your car as far in advance as possible. I've always gotten the best rates that eay.

I think it is quicker to use the companies' web sites. You can find some coupon codes on Mousesavers...or the transportation board. We are a family of five, so renting a car is significantly cheaper than buying transfers. I forget the transfer cost but our car rental in Feb is approx $60 each way. Having a car also offers some flexibility if you come in a day early or have a late flight home. As far as ease, we have used Budget and Avis. Both have offices near the port and run shuttle buses. For our 3 night cruise in 2 weeks, we are leaving the car in the parking lot(I think $15 per night), as the weekend rental was less expensive than the two one way rentals.
