I am doing a cruise but not a Disney one, but since some people here have been cruising with disney to the same destinations of some of the cruises.

My questions are about leaving and re-entering and if this counts as doing this in the US. What is the process of leaving the US for the cruise ect

It is the one major thing concerning me, I really hope this makes sense, because I am not sure it even does to me

I guess it depends where your cruise goes Anne. I just did one up the side of Australia and for the purposes of customs, we didn't need our passport every time but we weren't allowed to take food off the boat (there was a bag check) even though all the food had originated in Australia and we had only visited Australia kwim. We went through full security checks getting back on the ship each time. When we finally arrived back in Brisbane, we had to fill out forms similar to what you would off a plane and we declare any wood/food etc products even though the only places we could possibly have bought them was Australia, lol.

I would say that the US would be as strict, or more? And that if you visit other countries, you'd require your passport. With our cruise (was P&O) they went to lengths to make sure you understood how it worked (how to fill out your customs form on the way back in - the country you spent the most time in was the "Pacific Dawn" for example lol) with presentations and info appearing on the inhouse tv station - so I imagine they will walk you through it on your cruise too.

I suppose it didn't even enter into my mind. We did cruise from the US to the Bahamas and back into the US. We did have to show our passports when we checked in and went through customs and we did have to fill out those declaration forms on re-entry. It was all very straightforward, no problems at all.

I hope someone can give you a more detailed explanation as my mind is like swiss cheese at the moment.

We are cruising on Royal Carribean and stopping at St Thomas and St Maarten - I cant remember the exact answer - but I know we dont need to do anything special as far as visas or passports go.

Do you read cruise critic?

On our Western Caribbean Cruise and Transatlantic Cruise with Disney, we only showed our passports at check in and at customs when disembarking at Port Canaveral. To get off and on the ship which just showed our stateroom card for each of us which was scanned. They matched our photo on their screen with us personally.

We did this on freedom of the seas last year, just take your drivers licence & room key with you on shore excursions, lock up your passport in your stateroom. you'll only need passport for boarding.

Thanks everyone, I am cruising to Cozumel Mexico and as I expected trying to over complicate things.

I haven't checked out Cruise Critic but will look into that now.

So glad I found this place, it has laid to rest many of my concerns, and helped me plan my trip so much better
