cruise points for 2005???

Any idea when points come out for the cruise (2005).

I'm eager to see them, too. But, if I recall, the 2004 points didn't come out until early 2003.

That was about the time I discovered this board and it made quite an impression on me how many moans and groans there were about the number of points needed for a cruise. Nevertheless, we'll probably book (at least some of) our 2005 cruise with points.

Go to the "For Members Only" section of the DVC web site and look under plan your getaway then go to the Disney collection. You will find the point chart for 2004 cruises there.

We are not "official" yet, the deed isn't recorded, and so I can't download the software to see the points yet, I was hoping the chart was out in general information.

So are you all saying that is it cheaper to book cruise with cash than to use points ( if you say that each point is worth $10). I have not researched this yet but am interested if anyone has any info since me and DH are planning 10th anniversary cruise for next fall!

Yes it is but it is more of a hassle to rent out the points sometimes. You have to weigh what the value is for your particular cruise. In my case it was for one person and really not worth it to me in terms of my time to rent out the points.

The cruise usually returns around $5.50 to $7.50 pp compared to discounted cash prices. In addition one can reserve earlier using cash, get a price reduction if the price goes down later, cancel without penalty up to 2 months out and get a better cabin selection. The hassle of renting points is far less than the negatives IMO.

I think the points came out about March the last 2 years. They will frequently book you without the points schedule but you must commit blindly. So if the points go up for what you reserved, you are stuck.

We inquired with member services about 2005 cruise points and they said the point schedule comes out after the 1st of the year. So try around February, I know we will!

To rent or cruise on points.......

We are renting out points to pay for our cruise in Nov, 2004. Renting our points at $10 will leave me with about 100 "extra" points after covering the cost of our cruise. I'll either be able to rent more points to pay for airfare for about half of us, or spend an "extra" week in a studio at WDW.
Renting is not without its downside, however. I am currently on my 5th transaction in order to rent the number of points I need to in order to cover the cruise cost alone. Also, I am renting borrowed points in some cases which is much riskier (in my mind) than using just current year points.
Even so, I have had GREAT renters every time so I cannot complain about that at all. It's just that the process is time-consuming and I feel somewhat responsible for another family's vacation experience.

THis may be a silly question but if you rent borrowed points and it falls through, are they returned to the current use year?

They remain borrowed and expire at the end of the use year they were borrowed into.
