Cruise on points/I don;t think so!!!

It probably doesn't matter to certain element of members, those who

a) enjoy the flexibility to use their large number of points

&

b) the "if you have to ask the price you can't afford it";) type who want the convenience factor of making a call to MS & the trip is planned.
Tow other groups not impacted

c) those of us who won't rent points PERIOD!

d) those of us who have realized that even on cash DCL is overpriced!

E) Those that wish to keep their personal information private.

I really feel bad for the people affected on the "Ebay" thread, but the amount of information and access they have found to track him down is scary!:scared1:
You may not be a scammer, but once you give your information to someone, they can perform the same background checks on you.

$95 is nothing compared to dealing with identity theft or fraud.

OP-how many people are you cruising with? I am using my points to cruise but it is just me and 1 other adult. Yes we could save a little money by renting our points and paying cash, but to me that is more hassel that it is worth. Using points to sail is probably going to be a one time thing for us. No way I would do it with kids or multiple cabins.

Sorry, I am OP and would of answered this sooner but I have been off the boards a few days. I was so surprised to see this post was still active. I think I mentioned in my original post all that were cruising. My whole immediate family. They are in the picture under my name, all 10 of us. We have 3 cabins. This year we are looking forward to another cruise we have coming up on June 7th :banana:

I no many folks figure in cost, maintenance fees and other mathematical equations. All I did was take the amount of points and multiplied it by $11.00 which was what I value my points at. If the difference was a little I would of used points, because it was easier. But it was a huge difference so I decided to research the rental board and read up before I did anything. I was initially nervous because I had never rented. But once I started it took me less than one week to rent /transfer points.I was lucky to find 2 members that both needed a large transfer. The rest I rented to 4 other people. It really was not a hassle at all. I guess I just got really lucky.I am very grateful to have the rental board here.

Sounds like a fun trip:cool1:
Forget the buy-in cost, MF or any other equation,
just don't forget to keep all your records so you can pay your taxes next year. $11x 1800 pts is alot of rental income

Sorry if I'm straying off-topic here, but I don't know, I find the whole rental process intimidating. Like I said, I've never done it before, so maybe I have it over-blown in my head, but the whole process of listing your points, agreeing with a renter (do people negotiate price?), making the reservation, making any changes to the reserveration, collecting your money, keeping track of the profits for tax purposes, etc., seems pretty time consuming. You also run the risk of getting scammed along the way, which I know is very rare, but with my luck would happen to me. :) Multiply this by the number of rentals you would have to do to get enough cash to pay for a cruise. Not for me, not at this point anyway. Although..... it DOES sound pretty lucrative, even if I only make 3.00 or so profit per point, the amount saved can sure buy a lot of Konk Koolers! :cool1: Right now, with 3 kids and a very demanding job, time is my most precious resource. I look to DVC to provide rest and relaxation, not cause more work for me. I'm just not sure if in my particular situation, renting is worth the hassle. I'd rather just pick up the phone and be done, and use my energy to plan my excursions. Maybe if my situation changes, I will start using the renting/cash strategy. But for now, I'm just happy that Disney offers the option of cruising on points.

Oh, and I always buy travel insurance for a cruise to mitigate the risk... add that to the cost. But I guess travel insurance is a whole other debate.;)
I think must of the risk and aggravation is in the head and not real but there is some risk MOST of which can be minimized or eliminated. Certainly travel insurance is another thread unto itself but doesn't cover the entire value of the points.
