I am new to travel insurance in general and trying to navigate a safety net (recoups costs) in the event someone in my party tests for covid during the trip. Has anyone successfully navigated getting a policy for recouping the cost of the cruise/vacation if you or a member of your travel party tests positive (and cannot board the ship or continue your land trip plans)?

This is the first time I'm considering insurance, and it is super-confusing. I don't know that I care about getting refunded the cost of the cruise. What I want to ensure that I have is medical coverage in a foreign country and coverage for the cost to transport me back to the US.

The only thing I've figured out so far is that most of the policies covering transportation will only fly you to the "nearest acceptable medical facility." I am pretty sure I might disagree with them on what is "acceptable."

I still don't have any answers, but will post back here if I make a decision. And I'll check back to see if anyone else provides some info.

I can't say if people have gotten their money for sure or not but you can compare options through this site. There are others out there as well but I post this one since I went through them and they have specific filters for COVID coverage and Hurricane coverage.

Just make sure the insurance you buy covers illnesses related to the pandemic. Some specifically exclude the pandemic. Nothing new, the clause has been in some policies forever.

The insurance that Disney is requiring for unvaccinated guests? Has anyone tried to purchase that? Does Disney offer it as part of the insurance you purchase when you book a cruise?
all of our party is vaccinated but one, who can’t take the vaccine for medical reasons. Thanks for any info.

Insurance is through Arch Insurance (Disney Cruise Line). You can probably price it on your own. I got mine for my cruise (that got cancelled) last year and the premium was applied to the cruise I'm going on this year. I believe it covers COVID still since, technically, the policy was purchased in 2019.

Not sure if the current DCL policy covers covid, but that's what we got for our cruise. The docs are all very long and probably basically exclude everything. We rarely get insurance, but I felt it was worth it due to covid. I figured I would have the best bet getting some sort of reimbursement from DCL's policy than others, but I could be wrong.

DCL has stated the coverage they offer meets the COVID requirement for unvaccinated passengers.. whether it is the best coverage or best price - you'd need to comparison shop to decide. But if you don't want to do that, you should be fine to purchase through DCL. Just read the documents and know what is or isn't covered.

Will transport you to your home country, to a medical facility of your choice
I have just about decided to get this. Determined my health insurance covers care out of the country, so I’m good there. Don’t care about getting reimbursed for cost of trip (for most cruises we go on, we live an hour from port and book an inexpensive stateroom so it’s not really worth it).

If you are denied boarding due to someone in your party having Covid or symptoms of Covid you will get a full refund or a voucher. It's on the Disney site under book with confidence. Read through all the policies and FAQ section.

Make sure you talk to your health insurance. My health insurance told me they would cover me if they decided my treatment was necessary or if they decided it was necessary to evacuate me to a hospital in the US. I bought trip insurance. I don't want to be in a place where I don't speak the language and trying to get medical care for myself or my family.

Regardless of Covid or health status it’s a good idea to have medical coverage. Some countries won’t treat you unless you pay upfront, but at least you can get reimbursed when you get home. Medical travel coverage is generally very cheap.
