I'm wondering what you all think about this cruise insurance that is automatically added (but is not required) to your cruise price. Do you think it is necessary? Seems like an easy way for travel agents or the cruise line to make money- after all you can cancel two months prior without penalty. To me it seems unnecessary.

The cruise insurance is for things between 60 days and end of sailing. No one plans to end up in the DR's office, but if something happens 60-0 days before your cruise as in a death or injury making it impossible for you to go on your cruise this is where the insurance comes in. Also being airllifted from somewhere on your cruise can cost $10,000 before the helicopter even takes off. There are so many other things, but it is your choice. For our seven day cruises I get it. For our three day if we go I wont.

You can also get cheaper travel insurance thru other companies.

What if someone has to be airlifted off ( not probable, but it is a possibility) It also covers doctor visits, but from what I understand you have to pay for it first then it will be reimbursed to you after the cruise when you submit it to insurance company. Am pretty sure it also covers if you have to leave the ship due to circumstances beyond your control at home (read between the lines) Don't want to say it on this HAPPY board. Must be immediate family member.

Anyway I'm taking it for those reasons listed above. But also, if you don't cruise and cancel after 60 days, you don't get a refund, BUT you don't lose your money you can rebook and pay I think $25.00 per person fee to do paperwork. That is according to DCL rep. But they let you think you'll LOSE your money.

I think the relatively small price you pay for travel insurance is well worth it. My father had to have bypass surgery shortly before we were to leave on a cruise and we had to cancel our trip. It took alot of documentation from doctors and hospital but we eventually got our money back. I would never think of travelling without it.

We have been on 5 cruises all without insurance. I do hold my breath evertime though. It is taking a gamble not to have insurance, but I am a bit if a risk Taker. This is in no way telling you what I think you should do, only you can decide that.

I would get the insurance, my MIL passed away while we were on our cruise last Oct. However, a word to the wise, Travel Guard has given us a very hard time trying to collect the full value of the trip insurance. I'm sure there are plenty of other reputable companies out there.

Are there any third party insurance companies that you can get cruise insurance under the 60 day period. I'm within 50 days of our cruise and didn't purchase the insurance.

Are there any companies other than Liberty? Does Liberty have a web site?

Where can I buy travel insurance other than from DCL? They are expensive.

Will Liberty Travel sell you insurance if you didn't book thru them?
I booked thru Dreams Unlimited.

I usually dont get the travel insurance since it's just a quick drive to my local port. But this time we are flying cross country to Florida for the cruise. We got our travel insurance through this great web site: insuremytrip.com.
They give you all the different companies to choose from for the type of insurance that you want. All right there to compare!! It was great!

i went on dcl wonder for the first time 2 years ago and purchased the insurance, i was glad i did , my daughter had gotten sick the 2nd day of our land portion and i had to take her to the medical center there in lbv. disney gave us a ride over and piclked us up, i had to pay 2 hundred dollars out of my pocket that day at the medical center and when i got home i submitted a claim to my insurance company, what they didnt reimberse me the travel insurance company did, so it isn't a total loss, also don't forget when your on a cruise your out of the country for a good portion of it, try to get your regular insurance company to pay for that. !!!
