Cruise/Beach Towels necessary?

Do i need to take my own towels or are there towels for us to use on the ship and on Castaway Cay?

Are there lots of others with their own Disney Towels?

I would hate not to buy any and then my kids sees all the other kids with some and want one - one more expense for me?!

Or should i buy my own Disney towel from the Disney store and take with me to cruise and disney resort?

The short answer, no, you do not need to pack them. DCL provides plenty of towels by the pool (in teak bins on Deck 9) and on CC (you get them as you leave the ship). Sometimes they have them in other ports but not always. If you are on a DCL excursion towels will be provided to you at your meeting location onboard.

Now, the towels are small, about half the size of a regular sized beach towel and are plain white. I like a full sized towel so I usually bring my own or I will purchase one the first night in the shops...they sell many different towels with beautiful DCL and disney graphics...they run about $22.00 each for the regular full size towel and about $40 for the double sized ones.

You will see many people with their own towels and towels bought onboard.

It isn't necessary to bring beach towels with you, but we do it anyway. We like having them to wrap up our snorkel gear in while on excursions and it helps our beach chairs stand out from the masses of plain white towels when we're in the pool or at the beach.

There are only two of us, so it's not a big deal to pack them. As another poster said, Disneydirect.com has been having some great summer sales on beach towels. I stocked up on some fun Mickey/Minnie tropical themed oversized ones last year when they were down to less than $10 each.

We counted it as a souvenier expense. Disney Cruise Line towels can only be had on the ship I believe.
