Cruise and Disneyland 2022

My DSis and I want to cruise southbound from Vancouver to San Diego with a visit to Disneyland. I see there is already a date in 2022 for the northbound trip but we thought it would be more fun to anticipate a Disneyland visit after our cruise. Any advice or help? We are seasoned WDW travellers, both retired and first time cruisers! Many thanks in advance!

We did this after our Panama Canal cruise and had a great time. I live on East Coast now but grew up going to DL and wow how it has changed. We disembarked in Long Beach so not much help since you'll be in San Diego. Are you going to rent a car? We stayed on property at Paradise Pier for 4 nights which was nice but stayed at a Good Neighbor hotel, Anaheim Hotel, the last time which was closer to park entrance and very nice. My son who was 6 our first visit and has decided he loves DL over WDW and we went back again 2 years ago. It is nice that the 2 parks are next to each other so no bus to get back and forth. Enjoy your planning!!

Thank you. It's a strange feeling going to DL over our "second home" WDW. We loved being immersed and my favourite park is AK. I think the cruise will more than make up for that feeling.

The fall 2022 cruises aren't yet up, and the southbound itinerary (Vancouver to San Diego) will likely be posted later this summer.

We prefer doing the parks first and then the cruise. Active - sometimes hectic - vacation in the parks followed by a relaxing cruise, you know. While that's mostly true for our WDW trips, the DL setting is more unique in that you have two different seasons in which these one-way cruises run. You will have fun either way!

We are eyeing forgoing a WDW trip in 2022 to do this during April break. We have never been to DL, San Diego, or a Disney cruise for that matter so starting from square one here. Based on the sailing date we would likely have 2 days in San Diego, a 4 night sale to Cabo, and then finish up with 2 days in Disneyland. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions, just not sure what they are yet!

excited and nervous to try something very different from our usual Orlando trip!

personally I’m dying to do an Alaskan cruise but my husband thinks we should 1. wait until our kids are older (they will be 3 and 6) before doing that and 2. Make sure we actually like cruising first haha

Our first cruise was a 7 night Mexican riviera cruise after a week at Disneyland. We then did a 7 night Caribbean cruise and then a 10 day Alaskan. We are hopefully going on a 7 night Alaskan cruise in 2022but it will be our first cruise with kids ages (at time of sailing) 2 and almost 7. I think our 7 year old will get a lot out of it and I think the 2yo will enjoy it too. And after not traveling for the last year (basically since #2 was born in feb 2020) we can’t wait to get back out and travel.

The San Diego Cruises will be much less expensive than the Alaska cruises. So if you're trying to figure out if you like cruising, this may be a better start. That being said, I live in San Diego, I've done just about every MX cruise on DCL out of San Diego, and the Alaskan cruises are just better. Alaska is a really special cruise.

Generally the MX cruises will go to Cabo and Ensenada on the 2, 3,,4 and 5N cruises, The 7N will go to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan. I prefer the 7N itinerary. There may be a new cruise that goes to Catalina Island as part of the MX cruises, I haven't done that itinerary,

We are only going to have one evening/night in San Diego before our cruise. As you live in SD please can you suggest what we should do that evening? We are thinking eating in the Old town.

To be fair, I live in SD County, north of Del Mar.

Regardless, Old Town is nice, with lots of nice dining options. (It's funny, about 25 - 30 years ago Old Town was run down and seedy. You didn't want to go there ) We haven't been down in a while, independent of Covid. I've really only been down for Padres games. (You may want to see if they're in town that night) My favorite restaurant (Blue Point Coastal) closed last year, so I'mnot sure what to recommend. As you only have one night you may just want to walk around and take in the sights/atmosphere. Lots of nice clubs and bars, if you like to do that.
