Dear Dan --- OOOOOOHHHHH!!!!!!!

(I shoulda asked Tulirich first. He just laughed at me too. And then he said I don't have a leg to stand on.

Hey Eric - Arnold and Maria were skiing at Sun Valley today. I also heard that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (spelling?) would be there, which is only "news" to me because to my knowledge the latter are not among the "Sun Valley celeb" set and I have never seen them there (not that I would necessarily recognize them!). I thought they were more into Vail. :jester:

It was killing my DH to stay home with his cold, but he has been glued to the TV all day. I am still miserable with the cold HE gave me, but don't mind being in the warm inside looking out the window at the cold outside.

Windermere - you talk (write) like a TA! ;)

Rosemary, Rosemary, Rosemary, girl you are going to have to quit the foreign travel with those white russians. I was up at 6:30 this morning and fixed breakfast when Kathy came home from work. Rich is going to have to confiscate your passport;)

Mike

PS Good to hear from everyone. Dave you were right about the heated leather seats. The front part of your legs do get cool.

We are now 40 weeks (plus 2 days) away from the cruise. This number of weeks is significant to me because I work with pregnant ladies and 40 weeks is the lenght of a pregnancy! So...somewhere out there someone is getting pregnant in the next few days who will be "due" 10/11/03. When that person(s) come in a in 4-6 weeks from now I will begin my "cruise baby" list. This is a list of all pregnant ladies who are due within 2 weeks of the cruise!I have done this the past few cruises and it is alays lots of fun. I get so excited when they begin to wear maternity clothes, get their 20 week ultra sound, their 28 week blood work, ect!

I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Years celebration. We spent a quite evening at home. I did let the kids stay up to watch the ball drop in NY.

Rosemary...LOL! LEG!??LOL!!!

If any of the former 9/22/01 cruisers remember Tink33, I saw that she and her family are finally getting to go on DCL. If you remember, she had to cancel her cruise due to her DH job. They are very excited and are going this month.

Got to get to work!

Happy New Year! Sorry it is a belated but is due to the fact I was at work when the New Year rang in. We missed the ball dropping in New York because my friend was yapping her head off about someone in L&D and OB had brought food and we were invited to share. (Food always gets Kim excited) :teeth: Anyway it was 11 pm here and I remembered that New York was an hour ahead but we missed it. Shoot! I told my nursing supervisor that she could come down to the NICU for some Zinfidel (Sp?) for the party but she never showed. I guess she didn't believe me. Well, I didn't have any any way. No hang overs here. ;)

Mary, I have never thought about marking the time that way but I like it. :p

Had to get up yesterday, after only a few hours of sleep, and go on a NFN visit with a little girl who had a baby in our NICU. They are both doing fine. I can already tell the baby is gaining weight. Boy is she a cutie! Got several more visits to do today and have to go out of town tomorrow to do some more. Thank goodness they will pay for mileage.

I am listening to the news as I type about that awful wreck yesterday where those people who Dr Frist helped is on. How sad for the family. I heard that 2 of them died.

Don't worry Rosemary, I didn't know what he ment by "legs" either. It sounded like someone might have needed prosthesis.:p

Mike is up! Will close for now so he can get to the computer. Take care. Kathy

Just had the p**py scared out of me ... locked out of posting. DUH, I changed my E-Mail address and had to send the verification in to get back to posting. WHEW!

Kathy with @K ... read about your Dr. Frist and wondered what kind of guy he is? How nice of him to actually stop and try to help those poor people ... what a shame for that family.

Hope everyone had a nice New Years Day ... I worked a little on getting used to the new puter at home. Guess my old one was more of an antique than I thought! AND Art if you are reading this, you were right about getting the HP Printer, Copier, Scanner Fax & digital camera card reader! That's one cool machine ... you may see it on TV with the girl that prints the dog picture and the guy gets made that she didn't pick him out of the index.

Mike ... if you get a minute, can you please send me the Mickey clipart again ... lost in oblivion on my old puter. I'm going to try learning some more on the new puter and that is something I'm anxious to do. THANKS!

Well back to work ..............

Cathy with @C

Happy New Year everyone!! I know it's the 2nd but haven't been near a computer since just after Christmas. Had a lot of catch up reading to do on the thread too. I like the fact that the cruise is now this year finally.

Tulirose -- It is cold here now. Today it's -10 Celsius with the wind chill factor but it's been really variable. It was plus 10 Celsius but raining on the 27th. It snowed Christmas Eve but since it rained on the 27th all the snow is now gone. We are supposed to be getting snow tonight and tomorrow though. Getting to work tomorrow should be interesting.

Jim said that next year he'd like to spend Christmas at WDW but with the cruise in October we'll see if that happens although it would be nice. Would love to be in Fla now although from the news it doesn't appear to be that warm -- warmer than here though which is what counts.

We are driving down for the cruise and I don't know where we are staying so I can't offer any advice about limos or transportation. We were planning to park at the port for the cruise because we are going to WDW for a week afterwards. Wish I got as much vacation time as you do Eric. This will be the first time I'm taking 2 weeks together so it should be interesting.

Must get back to work -- first time I've been in since the 24th so have catch up to do.

Fiona

Hi Shari,
Arnie skiing? So he must have recovered well from his recent hip surgery I read about in the news. I'm really looking forward to Terminator III, which is due this summer. Perhaps you can convince him to join our cruise, so Anja & me would have someone to talk German to ;) And this would then be the first time ever I asked someone for an autograph. Usually I'm not into autographs, but Arnie is so special :)

Fiona,
4 weeks in a row isn't the rule. We are only entitled to three weeks in a row, but I coordinated it with my colleagues and then it works. And I usually only do it every second year. 2001 we split our vacation 2x 1 week and 2x 2weeks plus some single days. Anja and me always want to keep the flight time and the vacation time in proportion: For one week we wouldn't fly more than 4 hours, for two not more than 8, and everything extending to more than 8 hours flight time requires at least 3 weeks.
And finally the large number of vacation days may be reduced in Germany within the next years, if the economy stays as bad as it is :( Unfortunately it won't reduce the number of unemployed, when the people having a job work more, but that's how it goes.
For the time being I have 31 days, Anja has 30. 5 days equal a week, but you can stretch your vacation time by including holidays.: i.e. we included our Reunification Day in our Florida vacation to save a day. And additionally I can accumulate overtime on my time-account, but this can only be done at my company's discretion.
If your planning to park at the Port you should check out the Radisson Hotel: They offer a Cruise Special with a night before the cruise, a lunchbox, transportation to/from the ship and parking at the hotel. And you would meet a whole lot of well known -at least virtually- people.

Art & Cathy,
today we found a notice from our mailman. Perhaps it's your mail, Anja'll pick it up at the post office tomorrow. We'll keep you posted.

Eric - Arnold was one of the first to purchase a luxury apartment aboard the World of Residensea - the ship that travels the world and people actually "own" their "home" on. Most people, like Arnold, don't live on it fulltime. Some rent out their apartment when they are not using it. I think Arnold just keeps his free for whenever he wants it.

Shari,
this fits into the picture: Being the first to get a Hummer, being the first on that floating condominium, etc. He really hit the jackpot.

Ooops - forgot to mention:
Yes, Arnold supposedly IS skiing again, just not as wildly as usual. I think his ribs are still bothering him from the motorcycle accident. The big laugh in Sun Valley was when Maria campaigned to have a run on Bald Mountain (THE big ski mountain at SV) re-named after Arnold. She wasn't specific about which run (She is a real "snow bunny"). So the Sun Valley company picked a big bump run and dubbed it "Arnold's Run." To my knowledge, he has not yet skied it. And his pal/assistant Adi, who had a hip replacement a few years ago, is not a bump skier either.

Cathy @C check your email. Herr Mickey is in there. Mike

Hey Viking - When did Arnold have hip surgery? I spoke with Adi last night on the phone and when I asked him about it he said Arnold's MIL had hip surgery (which was in the news here also). He said Arnold had heart surgery plus the broken ribs from his motorcycle accident just over a year ago - old news but the ribs still occasionally bother him for some reason. He confirmed that Arnold and Maria did ski SV on New Year's Day. Adi's English and my German are not good, so maybe something was lost in the conversation, but every time I asked about hip surgery he only talked about Eunice (MIL). I know that being an Arnold fan you keep up on such things. So what is your "inside scoop"? Anyway, he's skiing again. :smooth:

Has anyone heard from jmalk? I met her briefly on the Wonder, but haven't noticed her posting lately. I guess she doesn't hang out on the DIS as much as some of us!

Who on this thread is in THE WARMEST location right now? (I can't wait to get out of Idaho!)

Taswira - I would love to say that I was in the warmest location now but that certainly wldn't be true today -- we just got 15 cm of snow last night and it's still snowing and will continue til tonight. It's cold too especially with the wind. I don't really mind the snow though because it makes everything look better and the cold easier to cope with.

I would like to be in a warm location though if that counts.

Eric -- Thanks for explaining about the vacation days. I don't actually have a set amount of vacation time but find it hard to take more than a week at a time because I'm busy at work throughout the year. It's hard to predict when it's not going to be as busy except for a week or so before it's not busy which isn't great for vacation planning. When I booked our vacation in September there was nothing booked and then I almost had to cancel it because it got really busy -- my secretary told me that I'm not allowed to take off the last week of the month again!! She was joking but it was really busy. So although I don't have a set number of days of vacation it's not like I can take 2 months off during the summer and no one would notice and I have to co-ordinate with my secretary and the person who looks after my stuff when I'm gone. I'm not complaining though because I like where I work and the people I work with.

Fiona

Shari,
Anja read it in a paper, but perhaps it was a hoax. There's so much gossip about all the VIPs, that you can never be sure what's true.

Talking about temperatures: We had about 58ºF today, but it was raining cats and dogs. We haven't seen blue skies for about two weeks :( I think we need a session on the sunbed tomorrow to fight winter depressions ;)
Tomorrow morning we will have a Bavarian Brunch to celebrate a friends birthday. In the evening we will see "Holiday On Ice" with my Gramps. We gave him the tickets for Xmas and accompamy him. He'll be 90 in May and needs a helping hand to enter the Fairground Complex, where the show takes place. His body needs a stick for support and some hearing aids, but fortunately his mind is still sharp as a knife.
And on sunday I have to work, I brought a whole bag home tonight. So there's no time for an update this weekend - Sorry

Happy (Belated) New Year to everyone.

I've been reading the posts, but to lazy or tired to report in.

Mike--- The Christmas hockey tournament is over and I am offically retired from the hockey tournament business as of Jan 1. I had it so well organized that I didn't even have to go to the rinks. I handled any problems from home. All my hockey helpers ran the rinks for me. Now to just get all the information organized so I can pass onto the new unlucky person who is crazy enough to do it. Most people burn out after one year, I lasted through 8 years. Time to move onto to another task, that I can use my organiztion skills at.

Rosemary--- Yes, my grocery bills have skyrocketed since my sons are home from college. Plus Norm and I were kind of getting used to eating a couple meals a week out, so it has been hard to get back into cooking so much. I don't enjoy cooking that much, I would rather clean.

Fiona-- I don't envy the long drive you will have to get to FL from Toronto. Toronto is one of my favorite cities. Having two sons that played hockey, have been there several times for hockey tournaments and once for a conference.

Elaine--- Congratulations on making a career change. Since I have had extensive exposure to the radiology field in the past few months, I admire what you want to do. Good luck to you.

Mary--- LOL on relating the cruise @ 40 weeks to a pregancy. What a cleaver idea to help pass the time.

Cathy-- Good luck with your new computer. I got mine last year and still don't know how to use all the features. I will keep my hidden mickey pin on my coat for the winter. I figure it is seasonal not just for Christmas.

Kathy-- Tell Bunnie I said hi and wonder how she is. Tell her I am coming down the home stretch. Only 6 more times to be zapped so should be finished on Jan 13. Hopefully won't have any more snow cancellations.

It is another ugly rainy day in PA, it has rained everyday this year. We are suppose to go to my sisters for our family Christmas tomorrow, however northern PA is to get 12" of snow so don't know if that will happen. My brother is suppose to come down from Elmira, NY and we were to go up. She lives in north central PA, guess we will just have to see how it is in the morning.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Nancy

Taswira - I guess that I'm probably in one of the warmest places right now, being that I'm here in FL, but it's really not that warm here. Today it was a high of 63 and it was quite windy. Tomorrow's high is only supposed to be 59. Warm for most people, but chilly for floridians.

But, New Year's Day was exceptionally warm. DH, DD and I even made an impromptu trip to St. Pete Beach for lunch. We stopped by the local Publix supermarket, picked up lunch and drinks and headed to the beach. DD (15months) loved playing in the sand, well until she stuck her fingers in her mouth. Then, she had a mouthful of sand and she wasn't too happy after that.

Alikat99 has me beat. It was 37 this morning, but warmed up to a balmy 50 this afternoon. Of course winter will be over in another 8 weeks or so. Poor me! :D
I went for a new job interview the other day, it is with a home for adults with developmental disabilites. I go tomorrow morning for a two hour observation.
Nancy, here's hoping you stay on schedule. I wear my pink pin everyday.
Big news for me, I got an e-mail from a long lost cousin. He and his wife found me through some search on the Internet. He is my father's sister's son. we are having a lot of fun catching up with each other.
Just one pregnancy to go! ;) Glad it's not mine!:)

OK, Is anyone else watching the OHIO state-Miami game? It is just too intense for me! Could they go 14-0 this year?
