*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. Kids 10 years and under are FREE. Prepayment by check is required two months prior to excursion (August). They don't take credit cards. If you are from outside the US, US Money Orders are accepted or if you have a US dollar account from a foreign bank you can draw a check on that.

We will be sending our checks to the following address:

The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt
3301 Pearl Ave
Key West, FL 33040

Please include a self addressed stamped envelope and also a NOTE with your names, e-mail address, date of hunt and DIS name. A new check will be issued from The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt to the envelope addressee and only be returned if the hunt is canceled due to the ship not arriving in Key West. No additional refunds will be made for cancellations, or people not arriving for the event.

***YOU MAY SEND CHECKS IN NOW***

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the red brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel. The hunt lasts from 1 PM to 4 PM. Remember to wear your ScavengEar t-shirts designed by @GoofyNut.

NOTE: The location may be moved since we are a large group. They'll let us know the exact start location and check in time closer to the event.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. The two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart. An electric cart isn't necessary to experience this tour.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too. Learn about interesting facts and trivia of these landmarks and sites.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too.

Since we are the ScavengEar hunt, our hunt has to have a pair of Mickey Ears, too. The back is sewn with the words "Pinky". At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied and stories of our hunt are told.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you.

Tina

Tina, I have written the check and will mail it Monday! Thanks so much for all the effort you have put into this event! It's going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

Ave, glad you liked the thread:)

Well, we got back home from the Baltimore meet at about 7:45 this evening and have been just kinda unwinding since then. Traffic coming home was much better than going there but I know you guys don't wanna hear about traffic. You wanna hear how the meet went!

I would say it was a big success. Everyone seemed to have a very pleasant time even with the awful humidity. The food was good, the cruise was great, and the company wonderful.

First Dis'ers Rich and I saw were Fiona (CDMickeyLover) and her hubby sitting outside. She was wearing a Disney shirt but since their picture wasn't posted, we had no clue if they were with us or just someone who was wearing a Disney shirt. Rich and I were standing there debating if we should go over and ask and I was just mustering up the courage to do same when they got up to walk somewhere else. Well, once I saw that the man was limping, I KNEW it was them! It was really kinda neat.

Then after that, it was a whirlwind of people arriving and meeting and figuring out who was who. We had three tables for our group on the ship but since Rich and I were one of the last ones to get on board, the other tables were all full and we were at what I thought would be an empty table. I thought to myself, well this is just dandy, we came all this way just to eat by ourselves. Well, I was mistooken. Nancy (PADisneyFan) and Norm were also late arrivals and sat at the table with us and we enjoyed sharing our meal with them and getting to know them better. It was very nice.

Of course, it was a joy to see Mike (papa) and Kathy and Cathy (@Goofynut) and Art again, after nearly two years! And we finally got to meet Nancy (Windemere) and George after missing them on the 9/22/02 cruise. Tina (Hopkins) and Bill were very nice. Tina had gone out and gotten a cake so we could celebrate Kathy's B-day on board. I enjoyed chatting with her a bit even though she was in the middle of several conversations at once! LOL!

I didn't get a whole lot of chance to talk with MaryJo (Sarah'sMom) and Sam but they and daughter Sarah seemed so very nice. I was very excited to meet our Long Island "neighbors", Arlene (Arlo1) and Andy. We had only talked on the telephone prior to this meet but had never had time to arrange a get-together. So this was a great opportunity to finally meet and they were also a pleasure to get to know a little bit better. We hope to plan another local get-together prior to the cruise, especially if we find out that Videoman (another fellow Long Islander cruising on 10/11) is interested in meeting.

Eric - Mike took tons of pictures. I took a few. I downloaded them from camera but haven't really looked at them yet.

I also read the thread started on this board by Mary (RellingTwin) regarding meeting other DIS cruisers. I agree with her 100%. I said with the 9/22/01 cruise, that we don't have to be each other's best buddies - everyone is cruising to spend quality family time together - but "knowing" other people really enhances the cruise experience.

Thank you all who were at the Baltimore meet. Hope you all got home safe and sound and I look foward to meeting you all again in October.

Thanks for posting Rosemary. I have been thinking about you guys all day! I wish we could have attended.
I'm glad Fiona's DH hurt foot did not keep them from making the trip.
Can't wait to see the pictures!

Hi Doug great to hear from you!! :bounce:
Out of town for 8 days - Have you got some tickets or hotel bills to prove that? :jester:
I hope you'll have fun next week at the Minnesota-Meet. I just glimpsed into the Cruisetoberfest2-account and there are two new mails in it. So I'll have to do another update of the page tonight.

Hi Folks,

I got new pics of OKWmiester, Boardwalk4me and a first pic of the Baltimore-group (Courtesy of Tulirose/Rich).
I hope to find time for an update tonight.
This afternoon we'll watch the German Formula 1 Grand Prix while running on the treadmill. The race-cars will do about 180 miles while we do 11 to 13 (Depending on the number of Yellow-Light-Phases)
Tomorrow we'll have "The Moment Of Truth": My colleague and I go on-line with our new department. After nearly 6 weeks of preparation we'll eventually see, if we did everything right.

OK, after months of just reading this discussion, I finally got enough nerve to post here (thanks to the "Anyone apprehensive about meeting other DIS'ers?" post).

We will be on this cruise with our 11 month old DD. We're going to MNSSHP on 10/10/03 to start the cruise off right. That will be our first time at the party so we can't wait. We will have lime green Mickey heads from Home Depot so people can spot us. Hope to meet you all on the cruise or the party.

Eric....... Good luck tomorrow with going online....

To the rest of you all I look forward to some more info over the Baltimore Meet.

Those who could not make it NO WORRYs we will have a big meet on the boat... ;)
