We went out on the in-laws boat. The area we were in is a salt water river/marsh. The dolphin come in at high tide to feed on the smaller fish. We had seen several groups of them, but then saw the saddest thing. A mother dolphin was trying to keep a baby dolphin above water. The baby was dead (and had been for quite a while by the looks of it):(
DD got VERY upset, I admit I had tears in my eyes too!

That's so sad. I swam with dolphins in Nassau and at the Living Seas at Epcot. They are beautiful animals. In Hilton Head, we went on a dolphin excursion looking for them. We found a few in the wild feeding on fish.

:(

Tina,

how many can team up for the Hunt? Windermere (Nancy&George) and we already teamed up, but Silentshot (Gaby&Jeff) are considering to join us.

Eric,

As long as you ALL stay as a group, there isn't a problem. It should be fun. Do they want me to pay for them? Are they offically joining us? I need their last name. PM me or e-mail me.

Good morning my german friend.
Tina

Morning all.

Nother busy week at work. If this keeps up time will really fly until the cruise. The only down side is that I really love the summer months and hate to see them end.

I have also been to some of the end of season sales. Though I really need nothing, but end up buying something. I love sweaters, even in the summer I wear short sleeve sweaters since it is freezing in the air conditioning. So I keep buying more summer sweaters. I told the sales girl at Christopher and Banks they should pay me to model their sweaters, as people are always asking me where I got the cute sweater. Of course, I only buy the sweaters on the 50% off rack.

Sunday we went to Hersheypark. This is the big amusement park in eastern PA. Norm's company picnic was held there. It was a gorgeous day. Plus not to crowded so got to ride my favorite roller coasters. In Chocolate World they have a new 3D movie, which was great. It was as good as any of the Disney 3D movies in the parks. It had a lot of special effects. When my boys were younger we used to have season passes since it is only 40 minutes from my house. Norm thinks him and I should get them again, just to go to the shows. Maybe next year.

I need to finalize my October trip. I haven't made hotel reservations for post cruise ( have been waiting for codes), gotten a rental car, booked Capt Marvin or made reservation for golf cart. I need to get on the ball some day and take care of all that. The older I get the more I put off things.

Ok, Mary and Ave I saw dolphins this weekend too. At the Dolphin show at Hersheypark. So sad about the baby dolphin.

Work calls.

Nancy

padisneyfan,

What is the 3D movie in Chocolate World about? Is it a cartoon version of the chocolate process or humans or both? I love Hershey Park! That smell of chocolate!

Tina :)

Tina remember the old saying "A moment on the lips is forever on the hips" Chocolate is a food group. Mike

Tina,

good evening from your German friend ;) Sorry for the late answer, but I only glimpsed at the boards during work. Now after working out and dinner I've got more time.
I think that Gaby & Jeff will join us, I talked to Jeff this morning and he seemed to like the idea, but he still has to talk to Gaby. We will meet on Saturday in Darmstadt, which is about 20 miles from Frankfurt and only 8 from their place. It is our favourite shopping town in the Frankfurt area. Since 1st of June all German shops are allowed to stay open on Saturdays til 8pm and most of them use that opportunity. We'll stroll through the city and have some Gelato (Italian icecream). We'll also make a photo of the four of us for the website. And additionally we will make plans where to put our trophy from the ScavengerHunt. The six of us (Windermere/Silentshot/Viking) will be invincible :teeth:

Hey Tina, I just saw it:
Congratulations on being a 1K+ - Poster!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Question for those of you who are hunting in Key West. Are you all pairing up? My mom either can't figure out or can't keep up with this board. She was wondering if they should pair up with someone. Also, is it necessary to rent a electric car? It may be necessary if they plan on beating you to Pinky! :)

Hope

Gaby and I will be there for the hunt. We need to make sure the prize goes over the sea to Europe... The beginnings of the European Key West Cup ;) Then I guess we will have to return year after year to defend it. (Could be worse.. HUH Eric)

We are looking forward to meet Anja and Eric.........

Hope,

An electric cart isn't required to experience the hunt. Some people just need them and others think they are fun. It's also not required to start pairing up, either. Bill and I are doing it the old fashion way by walking and it will be just the two of us. We'll have fun too especially when we beat the "Viking gang".

Tina :)

Jeff,

I need your last name. E-mail me, PM me or even here if you feel comfortable. Do you want me to pay for you guys since the place only takes US checks and then you can pay me back once we see each other.

Tina

*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. Kids 10 years and under are FREE. Prepayment by check is required two months prior to excursion (August). They don't take credit cards. If you are from outside the US, US Money Orders are accepted or if you have a US dollar account from a foreign bank you can draw a check on that. We will be sending our checks AND a self-addressed stamped envelope (so the checks can be returned if we miss Key West) to the following address:
The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt
3301 Pearl Ave
Key West, FL 33040
DO NOT SEND CHECKS, YET!

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the red brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel. The hunt lasts from 1 PM to 4 PM. Remember to wear your ScavengEar t-shirts designed by @GoofyNut.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. The two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart. An electric cart isn't necessary to experience this tour.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too. Learn about interesting facts and trivia of these landmarks and sites.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too.

Since we are the ScavengEar hunt, our hunt has to have a pair of Mickey Ears, too. The back is sewn with the words "Pinky". At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied and stories of our hunt are told.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you.

Tina

Mike&Kathy, Art&Cathy: Somehow your new pic got lost in the elctronic nirvana:( Please send it again - Sorry

To everyone:
Send your pics to Cruisetoberfest2@aol.com DO NOT send it to the Yahoo-adress, please.

I'll call it a night now

Hope -- Jim and I probably won't be pairing up and we'll be walking as well -- need to diet and exercise.

Bad day at work today. Very busy and everything seems to be coming out of the woodwork all at once. Will be late here tonight getting all the files straightened out so that I don't go completely nuts tomorrow. :D

Must go and find my desk and make sure that I don't misfile anything!

Fiona

SS -
I believe George will have no problem allowing the trophy to go overseas. As long as we get a picture together with it.

We rented scooters when we were in KW in June and were glad we did. It was REALLY hot. Eric and I had talked about doing a EV. Don't recall if they did 6 seaters. We may have to re-think the EV for scooters for 6 of us.

We have friends also cruising Oct 11 but have shown no interst in joining in on the fun. They will be celebrating their first anniversary so we figure we won't push it this time. But next time they have to do join in on the group activities.
( do you hear that Rodney and Susan - are you lurking? )

Nancy

BTW SS -

Mom is from Rotenburg Wumme. (sorry haven't figured out how to do umlats). I believe my Onkel is still living in that general area. So if there's any translation issues, mom is a cell phone call away.

Nancy

So the Baltimore meet - business casual but shorts allowed? No jeans or tennis shoes.

I assume most will be wearing shorts and a polo or something similar. And here I was wanting to wear a CC t-shirt. Oh well.

I'm on a roll now. I don't find time to post very often but when I do - look out world.
