I wonder if this is the longest thread on this board?

4500 is a lot of posts!!! We should know each other really well by now!! :O

Eleven Sundays!! Oh my! We will be cruising before we know it!

Thanks once again to you, Eric, for the updated list version.

Yes! Let's see some more of these people on the list posting. I do wonder....Did they just sign up and never came back to TheDis again,..... are they virtual lurkers......, did their computers crash?? What is it? I just don't understand.... I mean, I know people have lives and are busy but if you went through the trouble of signing up with us, why not let us know you are still with us?

Ave - Glad the computer is up and running. I KNEW you would know the correct brunch day, not like your counterpart. (oops! Was that a bite there? - LOL)

Bettemom - All hubby kept saying when we read your last post about the clapboard was: "That's a lot of work!". Good luck with the project.

Mary - (heeheehee) - Good luck with the bathroom project. We went through that end of last year and know what it is like. The ending is well worth it.

Thirteen days until Baltimore meet!!! :Pinkbounc

Hope - Also enjoyed chatting with you on Friday night!

So, what's the story with chat? Are more of us going to join in on Cruise Chats on Fridays?

And how about our own private international cruise chat on Saturday mornings? Will that ever return? Personally for us, Saturdays are now difficult but probably by late August, early September, we will be free to do same again. I know Eric has a busy schedule also between now and the cruise. But I did enjoy them when I participated so please let me know if Saturday chats will start again and we will try out darnest to be there!

Oh! With the Baltimore meet coming up, I wish I had paid more attention to everyone's biographies that we wrote a few hundred postings ago. I mean, I did pay attention to them and I read them and all, but now I want to review them with the ones we will be meeting soon but the thought of going back and looking for everyone's post is overwhelming to me.....

So my hubby wants to know what is the point of this post of mine.... I have no clue! I guess I shouldn't post after drinking some wine. I am just stating how I feel. You guys are alright with that, aren't ya??

;)

Hi All,

Could someone tell me about this Scavager hunt....
Or a link to it so I can show Gaby it......
please...

jeff

SilentShot, the Scavanger Hunt is a...well scavanger hunt:p . A company in KW runs it for private groups (of 10 or more ?). You are given a list of clues, to find items in Key West. Each item is worth points. The idea is to find all the items, then go to a specified end point and get your points tallyed. The winner(s) gets a prize (and bragging rights for the rest of the cruise:eek: )
The hunt is designed to show the hunters the high points of Key West. Since this is a private hunt it can be tailored for our group.
Some of us are renting electric cars to speed us along (also to carry the cooler filled with beer :p )

Bette...good luck with your home improvment project!

Eric, congrats on 4500:bounce:

Rosemary, we would love to do a chat again sometime soon. Pick a weekend good for you and Eric and we will do our best to be there. I'm getting tired of having my home filled with saw dust! After the "back" bathroom is done, the "front bathroom will be started. I know the end result will be worth it, but I just want the remodeling to end!!!!

Jeff,
I mailed you a link, but it may have been in one of the mails rejected by your stuffed mailbox ;)
try THIS ONE

Hiring an electric car on Key West isn't an option for you, because you would end up driving on the wrong side of the road anyway :jester:

I sent The List to Gaby's T-Online-account last night.

And finally: I gladly accept the invitation for Gaby's BD and the boattrip. Shall I transmit my ressie# to you to facilitate transferring the 2 kilobucks to Dreams Unlimited? :p

Page 2 :o

Folks,

it is soooo hot in Germany this summer, that this year we will fly to Florida to cool down :smooth:
Yesterday we had temps well in the 100s
Today we did an hour on the treadmil while watching Lance and Jan fight in the French mountains - And I don't think that we sweated less than them ;)
This year it really is a thrill ride!! Does anyone of you follow the Tour de France?

Heart break!! I just dropped my 9 year old DD off at camp this morning. I won't see her until Friday. This is the first time she has spent so many nights away from me. I am used to one night. I know she is going to have a great time. I am proud of myself, I didn't cry. My 7 year old dd cried! She didn't want her sister to be gone so long! :(

I know I am doing the right thing. She needs to go to camp and get some independence from me. I guess this is a small case of empty nest!!

We will all survive!! Hope everyone is having a great Monday!!

Hope

Hope -- understand how you feel. My DS is 17 and has never been away from home for longer than a week up until this summer. Have to admit that when he called on the 10th to say that he got leave for 28 hours from the 11th to the 12th I jumped at going to get him. I feel much better since I now have seen where he is for most of the summer -- when he left at the end of June I just dropped him at the local base here and he was bussed up. I didn't see him for 2 weeks and that's the longest he's been away ever. He's been away at other times for a week but never longer than a week. I realize that he's older but still I don't know how I'm going to react when he leaves for university after next year. I'll cope I guess. He by the way doesn't have any problems at all which is good.

Eric -- I've actually been following the Tour off and on this year. It's on later in the evening and I have a tendency to fall asleep before it's over so I read up on it in the paper the next morning. Seems to be a lot of injuries this year along with a lot of crashes. There is always an accident or two but this year seems particularly hard. I actually saw the Tour de France come into Paris in 1984. Hadn't planned on it but my DB and I happened to be in Paris the same day the tour arrived. It was really a thrill to watch them ride up close. Exhausting though and the heat must be something else esp this year.

Weather here is dreary. Today it's not overly warm and looks like it's going to rain any minute. Has not been a hot summer like last summer at all.

Looking forward to Baltimore.

Mini bio -- Me, 37, lawyer, one DS who just turned 17!! (can't believe it really) and who lives with us, Jim 53, website designer, three DS (13, 16, 19) who live with their mother, one dog (Lily) who will be 3 next month and will do anything (almost) for a cookie (dog biscuit).

Have to get going on finding my desk under all the files!!

Have a great day everyone.

Fiona

Oh no.........really bad storm coming through the area!! Megan is at camp. She hates thunderstorms. This one is producing HAIL. It is taking all my will power to stay here and to not go get her!!!!

Hope

Jeff and Gaby,

If you do the scavenger hunt, just let me know. I'm the list keeper of the scavenger hunt. I can pay for you two, also. They only take checks. I'm paying for Anja and Eric, too and then we can transfer monies when we see each other.

Just let me know.
Tina :)

*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. Kids 10 years and under are FREE. Prepayment by check is required two months prior to excursion (Aug). They don't take credit cards. If you are from outside the US, US Money Orders are accepted or if you have a US dollar account from a foreign bank you can draw a check on that. We will be sending our checks AND a self-addressed stamped envelope (so the checks can be returned if we miss Key West) to the following address:
The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt
3301 Pearl Ave
Key West, FL 33040
DO NOT SEND CHECKS, YET!

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the red brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel. The hunt lasts from 1 PM to 4 PM. Remember to wear your ScavengEar t-shirts designed by @GoofyNut.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. The two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart. An electric cart isn't necessary to experience this tour.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too. Learn about interesting facts and trivia of these landmarks and sites.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too.

Since we are the ScavengEar hunt, our hunt has to have a pair of Mickey Ears, too. The back is sewn with the words "Pinky". At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied and stories of our hunt are told.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you.

Tina

Hope, I know what you mean about seading your DD to sleep-away camp. We sent DD last summer, I didn't cry until the bus pulled away.

DS missed her, but I think he enjoyed having his parents all to himself.
Had an interesting weekend, worked Sat at my "other job", Sunday morning I was in bed reading the paper when I heard what sounded like a gunshot. I jumped up and looked through the drapes covering the sliding glass door in my bedroom and saw
drop.gif

a large hole in the outer pane of glass with the rest of the glass cracked! DS had been in the backyard hitting golfballs. The next hour at my house was NOT pretty!
But we did wind up going out on our boat, swam with the wild dolphin, and enjoyed a beautiful day on Shell Island.
DD and her friend even did a little water skiing.
Got to rub it in a little.:jester: I just LOVE living in FL.
Later, Ave'
