I emailed, or hubby emailed I should say, Hopkins to add us to the 'Other table".

I was curious as to what shore excursions people are looking into. We're booking 2 on our own, on Grand Cayman we're doing the horseback riding, and in Cozumel, the swimming with the dolphins (not the one Disney offers, same company and all, just a more interactive expierence.

In Key West, the catamaran racing, the rest of the stuff we've either done, or can do any time. Hubby is a private pilot and we've been known to fly to Key West for dinner :) Gotta love living in Florida. If any of ya'll are planning trips to WDW between now and the cruise, please email me. At the minimum I can give you a heads up on the weather, or even meet up. (And maybe got a ride in the front of the monorail by Jeff.

Later!
Jen

Hi Jen,

we will be at WDW (and IoA, USF and SeaWorld) from 10/02/03 til we cruise and we would love to meet you or ride in the nose with Jeff. Let's talk about it, when "The Time" ;) gets closer.

Thanks for the welcome!

RellingTwin- No, we do not have any kids yet, but we love kids and really are still big kids. We're actually taking my parents because they have never been on a cruise. My husband and I were on the Wonder in January for a late honeymoon and he won the "Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer" contest. So, we upgraded the room and added two guests. We're really excited to be going on the Magic! We're from central Ohio. We would love to hear about any activities you have planned. I remember thinking when we were on the wonder that the sail-away party would be more fun if you knew more people!

*Cost?
It's $20/person for 3 hours. Kids 10 years and under are FREE. Prepayment by check is required three months prior to excursion (July). They don't take credit cards. If you are from outside the US, US Money Orders are accepted or if you have a US dollar account from a foreign bank you can draw a check on that. We will be sending our checks AND a self-addressed stamped envelope (so the checks can be returned if we miss Key West) to the following address:
The Southernmost Scavenger Hunt
3301 Pearl Ave
Key West, FL 33040
DO NOT SEND CHECKS, YET!

*Place and time?
We are going to meet on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 at 1PM in front of the stairs to the Hilton Hotel Lobby. It's to the right of the red brick building (Custom House) as you leave the ship. The Magic usually docks in front of the Hilton Hotel. The hunt lasts from 1 PM to 4 PM. Remember to wear your ScavengEar t-shirts designed by @GoofyNut.

*Electric Cart?
If one needs an electric cart, the scavenger hunt people can point you in the right direction to rent one. The two electric cart places they use are Key West Cruisers @ (305)294-4724 http://keywest.com/keywestcruisers/ on Truman Ave at Truman and Duval and Reef Mobile (formerly Randal J Scooters) @ (305) 296-0208 www.reefmobile.com on Greene Street (near Sloppy Joes Bar on Duval). The Reef Mobile Electric Carts are themed, but have changed management and are going to be themed according to "reefs", like shark, manatee, dolphin, baracouda or octopus in a reef theme instead of the polka-dotted one on the hunt website. Call these companies to make reservations if you require an electric cart. An electric cart isn't necessary to experience this tour.

*Sites?
Southermost Point, Hemmingways House, Shipwreck, Cigar Place, Shrimp Dock and off the wall places you might not normally have known about. The normal Key West sites plus some interesting wacky ones, too. Learn about interesting facts and trivia of these landmarks and sites.

*Hunting for objects?
In addition to searching for the sites and answering the clues (all for points are counted at the end for prizes), there is an object named "PINKY". He is their mascot and if you find him, he is worth an extra 50 points. People in Key West know of Pinky the Flamingo. He's famous. As our award winning scavenger hunt is, too.

Since we are the ScavengEar hunt, our hunt has to have a pair of Mickey Ears, too. The back is sewn with the words "Pinky". At the end of the hunt, people gather at the "mystery location" for the awards ceremony where all the points are tallied and stories of our hunt are told.

That's it for now. They will be checking in on us to give our group more information, so they will be posting shortly and I will also. If more people want to join the group, just reply to this thread. If I missed someone, sorry. Just remind me, and I'll add you.

Tina

Cathy- I feel your pain! It's June 3 and I'm wearing a sweater and khakis! Shouldn't I be in shorts? So tired of being cold! I'm glad to know there will be so many people on the cruise from Ohio!!

Looking forward to being warm on the cruise!

Kate/eeyorekjs7,
I got your mail - Now you're officially a member of our group

Folks,
with the addition of eeyorekjs7, the growth of T.O.T. and some additional bits of info, there are more than enough reasons for another update. I don't have time to do it tomorrow, because its -Opa-day. I will visit Gramps, have dinner with him and then we'll watch a DVD and have a talk. Opa just made a great deal at my cousin's shop: She's an optician in a big franchise, which makes nationwide advertisment for their senior citizen program, giving 1% of rebate for every year of age. Gramps just got 90, so he only had to pay 10% for his new glasses. That's a good reason to get that old, isn't it? ;)

And then their is another reason for me being in especially good mood: On the G8-Summit your President, teh Russian President, our Chancellor and even the French President got back to speaking terms and shook hands. It seems that all the bad vibrations between our nations, which came up before and during the war are disappearing and everything is getting back to normal - Thank God. I really was longing for that.

Now it's bed time for me - nearly midnight :o I just picked Anja up at the hospital and I have to be early at the office. Next monday we have a holiday (Pentecost), so we must deliver all our files on Friday, which means a lot of overtime this week.

CU tomorrow

Kate, the following is a list of the planned meets so far:
Fri 10/10 meet at the Radisson
Sat 10/11 Sail away party deck 10 5pm
Sunday 10/12 Brunch at Palo and Scavanger Hunt in Key West
Tues. 10/14 Captain Marvin Sting Ray Tour (1/2 day @10am)

The Radisson meet time and place are TBA
The Sail-A-Way is a MUST! This way we all get to meet for a few min. before the cruise starts so we will know one another later if we run into each other.
If you are interested in the Brunch contact TwinAve.
If you want to join the Scavanger Hunt, contact Hopkins.
If you are interested in the StingRay Tour, make your reservations and let them know you are with the DIS Group (so you are put on the same boat)

Eric...you can get a 40% discount on your glasses SOON!!:p

Fiona = Over the weekend I heard that the Jays were two behind the Yankees and Boston one and a half behind Yankees. Don't know if that still stands but that's pretty good!

Eric - Refresh my memory - when in June are you coming over?

Welcome to JenKatt and eeyorekjs7 - Glad to have you both here!

Hi to Everyone!

Hi, all! :bounce: Wow... 19 weeks! We're getting there, but I don't want to wish away the summertime, if it ever actually arrives.

I'm hoping Josh will be more interested in emailing the other kids when school is out. He's excited to be meeting Sarah next week.
Only two more days of school!! :Pinkbounc He goes back on Aug. 20th, which I think is way too early.

Rained all day here today and I don't think we even hit 60º, but was beautiful yesterday.

I hope Nancy & Norm(padisneyfan) are having fun at WDW this week! Oh, and Dan too...not sure when he was going to be there. Our daughter and family are leaving Thursday a.m. for Becca's first WDW trip! They'd better take lots of pics!

Welcome, JenKatt and eeyorekjs7!! I'm compiling a list of cell phone numbers for the group so we can contact each other in case of emergency, etc. during the cruise. If you have a cell phone and would like your number added, just contact me via email or PM.

I was thinking.... ok, don't get worried. LOL But, if some of us were using those little radios during the cruise... we're planning to bring ours... maybe we could have a channel for our group to tune to if we needed to contact each other on the ship. Would that be practical or not? I may not have thought that through far enough, but thought I'd toss the idea out there. Surely, someone would be tuned to the group channel if we needed to call, right?

Mary Jo--- I don't blame you for not wanting a cell phone. We didn't have one till Don's workplace thrust one on him.... the electronic leash they call it. :p It does come in handy occasionally for our personal use too, but we probably wouldn't have one otherwise.

Doug--- I didn't receive your cell phone number. Did you send it via PM or email? Please try again and I'll do an update.

Eric--- I can't imagine temps in the upper 80's with no a/c, especially in the office buildings and such. Do you just get used to it? Curious, I guess.

I see we have more people from Ohio. We might want to start thinking of a little Ohio get-together before the cruise. We have quite a few people.... bet it would be fun. We're thinking of a weekend trip to Columbus for either the weekend of Aug. 2nd and 3rd or Aug. 16th and 17th. Thought we'd spend Saturday at the State Fair and Sunday at the Columbus zoo before heading home. Maybe we could get together in conjunction with that if anyone would like to. Open to other times and locations, of course, but let's think about it.

Getting very late. I'd better get some sleep. Lots of cleaning, packing and such to do before we leave Saturday a.m.

Mary Jo-- Very much looking forward to meeting your family next week! Have a safe trip.

Colleen

Colleen: Does everyone who submits their cell number receive the cell list, or is it only for Eric? I submitted my number but did not receive the list you just sent out.

Everyone: Is anyone planning to visit WDW any time next week? I will be taking my mom again tomorrow, but will be there solo a couple of times next week if anyone is there and wants to meet.

Shari

Shari-- Yes, I sent it out to all who submitted their number. I sent it out to you again. Not sure what would be up with that. Sorry it didn't get to you the first time.

If anyone else sent me their number and didn't receive the list, please let me know that also.

Colleen

Hi to Everyone!

Rosemary,
I will fly to Denver on 06/16 via Newark -Unfortunately I only have a 3.5-hour layover, which is definitely to short for visiting you ;) and I will return 07/02 to arrive in Frankurt 07/03.

Colleen,
today we even crossed the 90ºF-limit and had a temp of about 86ºF in the office. We're allowed to wear shorts and T-shirts - Except for the people dealing directly with customers, of course.
But it is no problem for me, I still do two hours of sports a day - So there's no sweat left :jester:
We Europeans like it warmer than you. I just read a survey that Europeans prefer a temp of 74-80ºF at their jobs, which is a lot higher than the preferred 66 in the USA.

.....
ERIC!! Why couldn't you have a layover in Newark on a SUNDAY!!!! We could have had a mini-pre-Cruisetoberfest meet at the airport! We would have driven out to see ya!!!

We plan on submitting a cell phone # at a later date after making some changes to our service.

WHO likes 66 degrees at work???!!! NOT ME! I would be a popsicle. Who took this survey?! I think they are WRONG!

Just goes to show, can't believe all that you read!

I have to agree with Rosemary! I would either be shivering or wearing a sweater at 66º. A lot of the public buildings are kept at much too low a temperature here for me with the a/c.

We don't have central a/c in our house, but we do appreciate the three window units we put in during the summer months. The best part being that they take some of the humidity out of the air and we can keep it at a nice 75-80º and be comfortable. Not sure about everyone else, but when our temps reach the upper 80's into the 90's here, we usually have humidity percentages to match them.

Rosemary--- Lots of time for numbers for the cell phone list.. no hurry.

Colleen

Hi Everybody:

What is and whats involved in Capt Marvins Sting Ray Tour? It sounds interesting and fun.....

Arlene

Greetings fellow Cruisers!

Last day of classes are tomorrow for the school I work at. It feels like the air is slowly leaking from a balloon.

Colleen: Juse sent you our cell numbers, thanks

The Club volleyball team that I coach will be participating in a huge tournament at the Wide World of Sports during the week while the rest of my family will be park hopping.

Relling Twin: Thanks for the tip about the stingray tour. I will contact Capt. Marvins about the same boat.
