Shari,
"Der Stern" (The Star), one of Germany's most popular illustrated magazines (Like Time or Newsweek) sports an 3-page-article about Spruce Creek, Florida and the living in an "Airpark". I'm gonna read it tonight. Shall I keep it for you and bring it to the ship?
Sure - That would be great. Thanks! Was it written by one of the German residents of <I>Spruce Creek</I>? Articles about <I>Spruce Creek</I> are usually interesting - depending on whether the author views the community as a haven for pilots who like to wake up to the sound of aircraft engines, a hide-out for NASCAR drivers and assorted wealthy celebs (<I>You live WHERE?</I>), a <I>Peyton Place</I>, a <I>Stepford community</I>, or a place where even those who are not rich can buy a condo by the golf course for the "lifestyle" if they can afford the POA fees and abide by "the rules." I think it's a combination of all that. The first thing I learned was that there is no chance of sleeping in on a Saturday morning. That is when nearly everyone in the SC Flying Club takes off at first light to fly to breakfast somewhere. It always sounds like an airshow is going on! Then on Sunday mornings it's the Motorcycle Club! I simply MUST find some DCL cruisers in the community!

Twinave: I noticed your post on Beano's thread.....My family has traveled the past two Octobers at the same time as Beano and other Dis'rs. I was wondering if you were on any of the same cruises???

OMG ... Shari ... So nice to see you on the thread. Please stay ... we luv ya!

Fiona ... Repeat after me IT'S NOT WORTH RAISING MY BLOOD PRESSURE - IT'S NOT WORTH RAISING MY BLOOD PRESSURE!
On a better note ... Glad SARS is staying away from you. Some of the local schools have cancelled their field trips to Toronto cause of the SARS scare.

HEHEHE ... We live near a lake, and there is a Canadian Goose that has come back (again) to have her babies. She has been sitting on her nest for about 2 1/2 weeks now. When I take my walk tonite, I'll ask her if she know you - Fiona!

Survivor - CSI and Without A Trace - guess where I'll be.

Cathy with @ C

Hi everyone---have been guilty of lurking recently!! Happy Secretary's Day (ok, so it is one day late) Tullirose and me and any other secretaries we have going with us!! I guess now they call it Administrative Assistant Day....got a beautiful bouquet of pink roses and going out to lunch next week.

Scootersmom...send me (email me) your phone number and we will definitely get together for breakfast on the Saturday that you are leaving for home (not quite sure how far Virginia Beach is from Williamsburg so we can either do a breakfast or lunch)--I know that Norfolk is about one hour from Williamsburg so it can't be too much further.

We are definitely up for a Baltimore meet with PA./NY/MD people--just let us know when and where (and hopefully, give us some directions) and we'll be there. I know that it seems like we are always going somewhere but honestly, we do stay home quite a bit!!

Survivor tonight..wonder who will get the ax!! Have a warm and sunny day!! Mary Jo

MaryJo,

thanks for the treat!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: I wrote you a mail, but wanted to thank you on the boards, too.

Shari,
I read the article on the treadmill in the gym and it was very interesting. How's your German? If you think it is sufficient to read the magazine I'll make a scan in the office and mail it to you. If not, I can translate it this weekend and mail the translation. BTW, the article was written by one of Stern's reporters and shows a very positive image of your little community. It covers bout two large pages and has two pics in it.

Cathy,
I know JAG, it's the favourite show of my ex-wife, but what's CSI?

Fiona,
our Surgeon General already issued a warning not to travel to China and Toronto :( Take good care of you and your family.
A colleague of mine will travel to Thailand in two weeks with his wife, who is from there. He thought about cancelling, but the travel insurance won't cover it - and his wife would be more than disappointed. Anja got him a supply of facemasks from the hospital, but IMHO they are of psychological use only ;) Just good enough to calm you down, but no real protection.

Eric...just got your email and you're welcome--the treat was a local chocolate factory's favorite Easter candy--Smidgens..filled with Peanut Butter. Actually, I am not a candy lover but the locals go nuts for these!! Glad you enjoyed them and sorry if you have to work out a little harder!!!

If it isn't too hot in October, I will bring several boxes for everyone to try as our "Pennsylvania connection"...BTW, they are made by Gertrude Hawk Candy if anyone has heard of that candy company!!

Eric ... CSI is Crime Scene Investigators. Really cool on how they determine the mechanics of a death. From my Ambulance Service days we'd say the mechanics of the accident. Example ... if a person is in a car accident and hits the steering wheel, whatl kind of injuries could they have received....that kind of thing. I'm sure you'd get a kick out of it.

<B>Eric -</B> My German is sadly lacking. I can usually manage <I>very loose</I> translations to get the gist of something, but that's about it. I have been concentrating so much on learning the Croatian language lately that I sometimes get confused. The only foreign language in which I ever considered myself <I>fluent</I> was French, and now even that seems to have slipped from lack of use. Then I have friends in Africa who write to me in Kiswahili. They assume I know the language, just because I was able to speak and understand most common phrases. I find myself digging out a Swahili dictionary and surfing the Web for accurate online translators!

I am glad they showed a positive image of the community. There have been a lot of changes lately, with more in the works. The biggest change is that it is now "officially" part of Port Orange and not Daytona Beach. That has some, such as my sister, up in arms. It is also confusing. DCL's computer system kept automatically correcting my address to Daytona Beach based on zip code. They finally had to manually "force" the system to accept Port Orange. And AAA can not be changed even manually. Same problem with some magazine subscriptions.

Is there any mention in the article of the new "Pet Playground"? It is in the works and should be great when it's finished!

<B>@GoofyNut -</B> <I>CSI</I> is my FAVORITE show (but only the original, not the Miami one). But my sister and mom refuse to watch it because it is so <I>graphic</I>!

The recorder did not work and Survivor was not recorded while I was away at my workout! And from the Survivor thread on the Community Board, it seems I missed a REALLY REALLY GOOD episode!!!!!  :( :(

Sorry that we haven't been around much, but we had 4 patients yesterday, 6 today and I drove over two hundred miles (320km) for our metric friends and spent 11 hours in the vw today. We are both some tired puppies. We have 5 patients tomorrow so it will have to be Saturday before we are posting much again. Are we having a Saturday Chat?? Mike

Mike,
we'll be there for the chat, but perhaps a bit later than usual.
We'll try to make it until 6pm CET/10am EST but it is possible that we are about 10 to 15 minutes later.

Thanks for the explanation, Cathy.

Shari,
nothing about the Pet Playground and nothing about the "administative move" to a different city ;) They just described the everyday life of some families. I'll try to translate it on sunday and send it to you then. I've gotta be at the office tomorrow :( so no free time before sunday.

TGIF!!!! It's been a LONG week!

Hadn't thought of JAG meets CSI but I think you were right Cathy. Can't believe that they killed her off though. I actually thought that she was a really funny character.

Weather here today is nice. Little wind which means it will seem a lot warmer than it has.

All of the officials here in Toronto are upset about the travel advisory. Our mayor is a bit much sometimes though -- he said on CNN that he'd never heard of WHO before. He's not running for re-election in November which is a good thing although since we don't live in Toronto proper he's not our mayor anyway. Not really worried about SARS though because all of the cases can be traced back to one person who returned from Hong Kong in late February/early March. I haven't seen anyone wearing a mask but have noticed that the popular chinese restaurants are empty. We don't eat out a lot but keep saying that we should since there would be no lineups.

I don't have any fears here in Toronto although I wouldn't want to travel to Hong Kong or China at the moment.

Take care everyone -- gotta go and get some work done today.

Luckily I don't have 11 hours in a car. That's like driving to Florida -- which I wouldn't mind doing at the moment. :D

Fiona

Fiona ... Did you know she is really pregnant and married to "Harm". I liked her too cause she lent a diff character to the others. But maybe she wants to be at home with the baby. ALSO, "Sarah" is actually preggers too!

Bette ... ?, where do you put the babies to sleep? Give them a radio to listen to and that may help. ALSO, just how does that work with Guliver going to work with Kim.

Shari ... Swahili ... OMG - can't see many classes in the USA for that! I also agree, I'm not into CSI-Miami either. Do like the original cause it keeps me up with "mechanics" of injury.

Mike ... 11 Hours in the car ... get out and get those wrinkles out will ya!

Rosemary ... Sorry you missed Survivor last night. Got Art's dander up and now he's rooting for Christi too. I wish I could give her a hug and let her know that maybe the "young click" dosen't love her but there are others that do.

:Pinkbounc I wish more of you guys would COME OUT AND PLAY!

OK guys..what is with Survivor--are Jenna and Heidi really that much in love with themselves--Jenna thinks Heidi is beautiful and Heidi thinks that Jenna is beautiful--maybe their one luxury item should have been a mirror since I don't classify Heidi as beautiful--would I die for Jenna's body....of course!! I was glad that Rob decided to vote with Butch, Matt and Christy. And how about Jenna being upset with Christy that she saved all of her money and bought the letter from home?? If Heidi was such a friend along with Alex, why didn't they give Jenna all of their money so she could outbid Christy. I loved when they asked "Who most needed counseling and Matt even voted for himself!! Hope the final three is Christy, Butch and Rob--Matt is a little too freaky for me!!

Hi, everyone!

It's been a hectic week. I'm trying to get things caught up this afternoon while Becca's taking her nap. What a cutie, but she's a handful when she's awake! I have an hour till Josh gets home from school, so wish me luck.

Ok, so far on the cell phone # list I have:

Avé (Twinave)
Nancy (Windermere)
Mary (Rellingtwin)
Amy & Chris (alikat99)
Mike & Kathy (papa)
Eric & Anja (Viking)
Dan & Scott (Dan and Scott)
Nancy (padisneyfan)
Bette & Kim (bettemom)
Don & Colleen (scootersdad, scootersmom)

If anyone else sent their info and I don't have it, or if you haven't sent it yet and want to be on the list, please send it in. I'll get the list sent out tonight sometime. Remember to send me updates if you change your numbers before the cruise. You can either email or pm me, it doesn't matter.

Colleen

I am SO glad to see SOMEONE agree with me on that! :teeth: All this hoopla over Heidi  - I'm sorry, but even being the far-from-beautiful, middle-aged woman that I am, I would NOT trade my looks for Heidi's! I think her face is plain, her hair is skimpy, she is too full of herself and has an attitude. And I think her relationship with Jenna is a bit over the line  .

OMG - Now I've done it! Not only am I posting, but I'm making controversial statements!!! Survivor definitely "divides the camps"!

Colleen - I will send you my cell number in a month or two, after I switch services.

Could someone of you please provide a link to a Survivor-site?
I would like to know what -or whom- you are talking about.

Now it's bedtime, I have to be at the office tomorrow - and next saturday, too  Fortunately we've got the First-of-May on thursday, which is a holiday over here :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Now I'm gonna catch some Zs - Brno (Czech Republic) and Naples (Italy) are waiting for me on my desk, to be worked at in about 8 hours :(

See Y'all tomorrow in the Chatroom
