Ok. So FX is showing the movie Cruel Intentions, and they have obviously edited it for cursing and nudity (I don't even remember if there is nudity). They also edited out the Selma-Sarah MG kiss. :confused3 Why? Ever seen some of the original programming on FX? Nip/Tuck is one of my favorite shows...but watch one episode for 15 minutes and they'll show enough to make Ron Jeremy blush (well, maybe not...but you get the idea). I'm baffled. And my DBF was so looking forward to that part!!!

Great movie! :thumbsup2 My older son's name is Sebastian. I have the DVD and the soundtrack. I wonder if the excess editing is due to the timeslot. I think they can get away with more after 9:00, the time N/T starts.

Actually I have found that TV edits are don't take into account what network they air on. I've seen some really harsh edits even on late night cable.

AIIRC, in Cruel Intentions there is what the networks would call partial nudity, so it's cut out. It's either that or have a NYPD Blue like warning.

Could be worse. Ever seen the digital clothes they put on characters when they can't lose a scene because the movie would make no sense without it?

If you want some real strange double standards on this subject just turn on any WWE wrestling show. More in that two hours than most PG13 movies, yet there it is at 8:00 on basic cable.

You know, I never thought about the timeslot. 8 PM is quite early. That darn sun going down earlier is really getting to me!

Digital clothes. LOL I saw a bit of Showgirls on VH1 and the digital bikini tops made me :rotfl: so much I had to call a friend so she could see it. It was just too much!

I've always noticed that when TBS (or maybe TNT) shows Dirty Dancing--which they show all the time--they cut out the first-dancing-leading-to-sex-scene between Baby and Johnny. I could never understand that either for similar reasons. No nudity--just a bra. And nothing more than some making out under sheets. I don't get it.

I've also noticed that when Sex and the City is shown on television, though they cut things out, there is still a lot that is shown. For instance, when Carrie has sex with Burger the first few times and it's really bad, the thrusting motions they're making are pretty obvious even though you can only see the two of them above their shoulders. Yet the dancing scene in Dirty Dancing had to go? I guess it could have to do with the time issue--Dirty Dancing is sometimes on during the day/early in the evening and sometimes later, but as far as I know Sex and the City is always on after 10 pm.

He could? She was starting college in the fall...wouldn't that make her 18? Even if she was 17, it would depend on the age of consent in whatever state they're in...

I am totally blown away by that thought. It never occurred to me ever, and I've watched that movie more times than I care to admit...

Wow...I'm off to google...

I love Cruel Intentions! The soundtrack is great also! Maybe they edited that part because of the spit string! Yuck!

Any luck? I looked but couldn't find anything that gave the ages or bios of the characters.

You made me re-think my thoughts on this, but I always thought they played it like Baby was not 18 and that is was one of the many cases in movies where the teen girl goes for the much older guy.

I don't think the age of Baby matters. It's really the age of Jennifer Gray that might tip things.

However, each station and narrow-cast network has their own philosophies of what might or might not offend an audience. Someone who watches WWE isn't going to be offended as easily as someone looking for a family film. They don't usually talk about why cuts are made.

However, here's something else to think about. They also have to try and fit a movie into a timeslot that contains as many commercials as allowed by the FCC, which is more than a broadcast network is allowed. Consequently, a cut might be made just to shorten the film.

I once watched the original Angels in the Outfield in a 90 minute timeslot. The film is slightly longer than that without commercials. Interesting cuts, I must say.

And you probably never lived through Million Dollar Movie, a film show that ran on WOR-TV in New York in the 50s. They ran the movie for one week, twice on weekday evenings, and about 5 times on Saturdan and 5 times on Sunday. They didn't stop the movie for commercials, they played the commercials while the movie was running. It took several viewings just to see an entire film.

By the way, if you want incomprehensibility, there's the TV print of Animal House, and, for the old 4:30pm movie in New York, a print of M*A*S*H.

Well, here's what I got: Baby was supposed to start Mt. Holyoke (sp) College in the fall following that summer, so I am going to assume she was 18, but if she had a late birthday she may have only been 17. BUT, assuming the Kellerman resort was in the Catskills, the age of consent in New York is 17, so we're all legal there.

:rotfl: I cannot believe I spent time on this...

oh, and Jennifer Grey was born in 1960, so she would have been 27 at the time the movie was released...so that's :thumbsup2!

Oh, I can.

Watching The Godfather 2 once, DW and I saw the scene where Michael enlists on Vito's birthday. It seemed to be the day after Pearl Harbor - December 8th. Well, that's DD6's birthday, and DW go really upset that our daughter was born on the same day as Don Corleone. We spent roughly two days tracking down the fact that Don Croleone was born on December 7th, and that the scene took place that evening, not the next day.
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It's amazing what can turn rational adults into desparate, web-surfing idiots.
