when i go to reserve CRT for dinner my credit card gets charged the full amount. We have not booked our trip yet but we are planning on getting the deluxe dining plan so how would i be able to use my credits if i have already paid for the dinner........

At the restaurant they will credit your card and use your dining credits if that is what you want.

You can also call Disney dining once you have your plan in place to have it switched. But there have been reports that the reservation is cancelled and re-booked to change to the dining plan, and in that short time the reservation can be lost. To be safe I would just wait until you get there and have it changed.
