This exact example happened to us in November. We booked two CRT meals, week one dinner and week three breakfast. booked and paid for both at 180 days out for four people. At about midnight the night before we were due for breakfast my son started with a sickness bug/food poisoning. Next morning he was still feeling rough and in bed but not vomiting. We made the call that I would take DD to CRT alone as it was too late to get a refund on the 24hour cancellation rule and just lose the other two meals money.
When we arrived we advised the CM at the check in desk that we were now a table of two and were told no problem but you will lose the money for the other two. Fine, we understood that when we booked.
We were shown to a sweet table for two overlooking the MK and although worrying about DS we had a lovely breakfast. At the end of the meal the CM serving us came up to see if we wanted a wand/sword for those missing in our party. DD said yes please and made a special wish on the wishing star that her brother would be better soon.
CM then returned to our table with a gift card for use in any MK retail outlet for the value of the two missing meals and told my DD that he hoped her wish would come true.
In true Disney magic fashion we walked down Main STreet on way back to GF to see how our boy was getting on and for me to stay with him while DD and her Dad would return to the parks. Just as we got to the bottom of Main Street here came DH and DS coming to join us for the rest of the morning as he felt much better. To this day DD swears it was the wishing star that made him better.
