Hey guys! I know this has probably been asked many times so i apologize in advance. :rolleyes1

Long term friends of my family are thinking about going to WDW again after many years but because one of them works for a School getting time off during School Terms is extremely difficult.

Sooooo, they were thinking the last 2 weeks of August into the first week of September... they read & heard that the crowds will be lighter at that time due to most American children going back to School around then. I can't help as i've only ever been in Oct & Nov.

What do you guys think?

& how bareable is the weather? Anyone know what the daily temperature roughly is?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

the crowds are lighter towards the end of august (though not as light as in september)...
the weather can be summed up in 3 words - hot and humid...

hotter and more humid than you imagined possible...

that's when we're going this year...(last 2 weeks of august)

If you can only go out of term time, then probably the least crowded time is last 2 weeks of August. We used to September time but had to go August last trip and we did the last 2 weeks of August. Weather was pretty much identical to September, but it was much busier not enough to put us off going again though we are booked 7-22 Aug this year, lol.

You just need to prepare yourselves for the heat and the busyness of the parks, plan where you want to visit first in the parks, get the must-do things done early and then if you've had enough you can slope off early.

we have done the last week of aug and first week of sept and it is really empty !!! but just to forewarn you it's WET !!!!!!! take those ponchos as you will need them lol you dont tend to dry very quickly wither as it is very humid.
It is a great time of year to go but do beware of the humidity and wear the thinnest cotton that you can find.
Thanks
Vicky

Last time we went we flew out 25th August for 14nts.

The parks were really quiet which was great. It was wet though every afternoon!
The only other thing I would say that because its not peak season there may be more re habs of attractions going on. For example when I went Sept 02 the haunted mansion was close all but the last day of our trip, and in 07 spaceship earth was closed our whole trip.

Claire :)

Thanks for the replies everyone! :)

My friends are very worried about just how hot & humid it will be so if they do go next summer i've given them plenty of advice & tips! I think alot of people make mistakes when they go to WDW in the summer -they just don't prepare themselves properly. :sad2:

it's 100% humidity....i don't think i've experienced humidity like that anywhere else....
until our visits to WDW, i never realised that humidity could be 100% without rain...i always thought 100% humidity meant it's raining outside, but apparently that's not true...
100% humidity and 95 degree temperature is definitely unpleasant...
but we always go during that time..
you just have to realise up front that it's going to be meltdown weather...

Hi,

We are headed out 24th August for 2 weeks this year. We have previsouly been the first few days of Sept in 2008.

The crowds where very low which was great only around 15 min max wait for rides. Weather wise it was hot and humid as people have mentioned but it wasnt unbearable there is plenty of air-con in the rides/ shops and around the park. There where the odd shower & thunder storm too.

I'm hoping that this year will be similar for us we loved it last time.

We are also going last week August and first week September this year, I've been told it's the best time to go if you need to go in school holiday times, we are ready for the heat well i hope so ,we are use to going in June so I knows it's going to very humid just gotta hit the parks hard and early in the mornings then plan to leave about 2pm !

Ps, Rain and Storms we had them most afternoons when we went in May and June before but like I said we are normally out the parks by 2pm so normally dodge them well at least in the parks

Hi,

just noticed you are leaving the same day as us! where are you flying from? We are leaving from Manchester staying in SSR. Not long now for us :)

We are also going at this time (OKW) - we have been before late August and we did have quite a lot of rain (TS Fay in 2008) so hoping for better weather.

ANYTHING will be better than Alton Towers today - we got soaked even with my DLRP 'raincoat' - well nylon mac - that won't be coming to Florida with us as it soaked right through. I can handle a bit of rain so long as it's not cold as well (like today)

Just to reiterate - Hot and Humid! We're WDW August lovers in my family, I love going at this time of year! Usually with a 4pm thunderstorm.

It is bearable, the heat at first is a shock, but as long as you are prepared and take precautions (try to avoid the lobster look of many UK tourists :rotfl:) and of-course have fun!

Only downside is that the parks tend to close earlier due to crowds thinning out as the American kids go back to school :thumbsup2

Hiya,

But really looking forward to it now, we know it will be hot and humid and plenty of afternoon storms and rain but isn't that Florida ?
:)

Yep that's Florida all over weather wise isn't it , you pretty much get the afternoon storms rain ;)

Haven't really noticed that when I looked at park hours for when we go this time?
:)

Having just checked my itinerary and the park hours, I've noticed a couple of the Disney hours seem to have changed (did the itinerary a long time ago) so thank-you, you have accidently bought my attention to something important to my plans :thumbsup2 Generally, the parks close earlier in the later of August, though this seems to have changed, perhaps recently

However, the non-Disney parks seem to be effected more. In the last week of August, Universal Studios shuts at 8pm, rather than 10pm and Islands of Adventure closes at 6/7pm. I think others such as Busch Gardens and SeaWorld close noticeably earlier too, I'll have to check though.

Disney actually seems to be mainly unaffected and now if you would excuse me, I must redraft my itinerary :rotfl:

As the heat has never bothered me I tend to go at a time when the crowds are quietest and have found Septmeber to be ideal for me.
It is down to how well you can handle the weather though. Air con is good but they still have a lot of attractions that leave you queueing outside in the heat
