crowds mardi gras vs. princess half marathon

We have traditionally travelled during late fall, but this year are changing our trip to late february or early march. The dates I was looking at span either the princess half marathon weekend or mardi gras. For those who have travelled during this time, how are the crowds during these events? Thanks
