How are the crowds usually in September? We are going September 15-21. Booked when the crowds calendars were showing green and now they are showing medium crowd levels. Just curious if anybody has been around that time and how are the crowds usually like?

Hi,

Crowds in September are about as light as you will ever see at WDW. Now that doesn't mean you will walk on everything with no waits! It just means it is one of the least attended times of the year.

Enjoy your trip!

We were there last year in the last week of September. Crowds were ok, Weekend evenings in Food and wine a bit heavy, but not a major problem.

I've not been any other time of year though to compare.

Food and Wine starts on the 19th so weekends at Epcot will be slammed,

and all the home schoolers will take advantage as well.

we typically go mid September as well( this year it is 19th-29th) and I would say maybe an hour max for the REALLY big headliners( but I bet Anna /Elsa MnG and 7DMT will still be redonkulous) with everything else being 20/30 minutes max on standby. of course I have not been since FP+ rolled out so who knows....

We were at WDW the same period in 2012.

Our three trips were all in slower times of the year (early February and late January) and we found the September trip to be the busiest of the three.

We did walk on many rides like IASW and HM but, that was before FP+, now it seems even these rides have lines even when the crowd levels aren't that large.

If you have been to WDW in the summer or around a holiday no doubt you will find the crowds in September very good.. however, if you have never been to WDW or haven't been in awhile you will probably be a little disappointed in September crowds. It isn't the super low, walk on everything experience many people will tell you. I think some people who say that are people who go during high crowded times or they went years ago and that is the way it was in the past. WDW gets busier every year. We are also going in September and I fully expect our upcoming trip to be the busiest one yet.

We're going slightly earlier than you - leaving a couple days after your trip starts so I've been keeping an eye on things. The crowds should be at some of the lowest. (We went one year at the end of January during a record cold winter though and I wouldn't be surprised if that was really the lowest though). We normally go Nov/Dec non-holiday and the crowds are quite managable then. From what I've read, the crowds are lower than that in Sept so I know we can handle them. (I'm not so sure about the heat though, but we'll be trying!)

About Epcot F&W, it does increase crowds in EP significantly. However, our lowest Epcot day ever was the last Sat of F&W! The reason why it was so low crowd-wise was due to how/what we did. We had more than one EP day, so that day, we were there at rope drop and focused on Future World. We did make it over to World Showcase but barely, and then left - doing the rest of World Showcase on a different day. So, if your plan is to come early and not to stay late and you're going to focus on Future World, then it can be quite managable. But if your goal is to enjoy F&W to the fullest, then expect large crowds.

Even with low crowds, expect some rides to be crowded. We've found Space Mountain can be a walk-on during many Nov/Dec trips - so really low crowds. But TSM would still have waits of over an hour starting within an hour of opening. Use your FP+ wisely to do those rides and/or hit them first thing. (Though even that may not always work - for example, Anna & Elsa is not something I'd suggest attempting without a FP+ even if you're there at rope drop).

Another thing to consider is free dining. I didn't check your dates, but our Sept trip is during free dining. Free dining can make the parks feel a lot more crowded, but people eating longer meals can help with ride line length. I've found parks to feel a lot more crowded than the ride times showed during free dining in the past. We found AK to be the worse park for feeling crowded even when ride times were fine.
