Hi,
First timer here! I have been addicted to this board! Anyway, we (DH and DS) are going for DS first trip Oct 25-Nov 1. What will the crowds be like? Also, we are staying at the Riverside and am alittle nervous about the room since I have heard horror stories about the moderates cleanliness. We have always stayed deluxe before so are alittle spoiled. Any tips for us?

I can't comment on POR since I've never stayed there.

But I can comment on the crowds that time of year since I went from 10/26-11/2 in 2002. It was probably the 2nd least crowded I've ever seen Disney. Most rides were walk ons for us. The only time less crowded was when I went about 4 days after 9/11.

Hi Cinderumbrella,

I would like opinions on this topic too!
We are going Oct 3 -10 and I'm a little concerned about crowds due to free dining pkge and Food & Wine Festival.

We almost always go in August and were really hoping to have MUCH shorter lines and milder temps but now I'm not so sure.

I imagine your dates will be better for both crowds and temps. :wizard:

I have never stayed at POR but I know many people rave about it.
You can read reviews at a variety of sites including AllEarsNet, Expedia and of course you can do a search right hear on DIS!! :flower:

No matter how crowded or hot, we're still be in WDW :rotfl:

We are going to be there during the same time the last week of October but I am thinking it may be pretty crowded. I was trying to rent DVC points yesterday for a studio on the 27th & 28th and there were no studios available at any of the DVC resorts. It seems late October has gotten to be a pretty popular time to visit. I am really hoping it is just the DVC resorts that are really full and not all of the resorts!

I've stayed at POR several times and never had a problem with cleanliness. Don't worry about it.

We'll be there the 29-5th, at YC. Love going in October--it's usually not too hot (altho last time over 100 degrees!) and cools off in the evenings. No waits for rides. Spoils the kids, who thought it was normal to get off and right back on the rides!

POR is a favorite of ours. We haven't had any trouble with the rooms--not a long walk for breakfast, clean, never waited more than 10-15 min for the buses.

We would have been there again, but with 3 DSs the trundle bed is getting a little old--we need more space.

All the rooms at POR have been refurbished. We were there in July, building 25, and it had new curtains, bedspreads and I think even the floor in the bathroom was redone. Everything looked fresh and new, it was great! Don't worry! :goodvibes

Maybe i'll see ya around. Me and bf are gonna be there oct 24-31 at POFQ. Usaully its not to bad in oct but i have a feeling its gonna be busier this year. I guess we will just have to see.

You will love the POR . I have stayed there a ton and love it everytime, I have not stayed there since they have redone it .

I love going in Oct this will be my 4 th time to go in Oct and I love how it is not crowded and it is not really hot. You will have a GREAT TIME . We will be there during the same time you are : ) Are you doing the MNSSHP??

We'll be there on the 31st... and based on the other posts I think we'll be the only ones there :)

I stayed at POR last year and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the resort.

I, too, was spoiled as a child and always stayed at Deluxe resorts with my family. BF and I just could not afford that last year so we went with POR since that was within our budget. I was a little nervous too but I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the entire resort. Very beautiful landscaping and scenery. Clean rooms, pleasant staff, etc.

I'd stay there again -- although for my next trip I'm staying at the Poly come hecl or high water!

the crowds are low, mostly people from england who have some sort of school break, which is different. the wait times are low for the rides, but park hours are usually reduced, and there's not as much going on compared to full season. but we love the weather and lack of crowds: october is a favorite time to go. riverside is a nice resort, with beautiful grounds, a decent food court, and the nice boatride to downtown disney. in fact, we are counting the days until we go this oct. 22 - 30.
