Crowds in February?

We are on our way to the World from Jan 29 - Feb 8. We are taking our newly adopted son (14 months old) along with our DS - 4. We practically just got back from a November trip with 23 family members, and began visitations with our new son the day after we got back, so OF COURSE we have to take him now!!! I was wondering if anyone can give me a clue as to the crowd sitation during this time. I know the average temp during this time is 72, but can anyone comment on whether this is pretty consistent or can we at least hope for better weather than this? Any help would be appreciated.

I have been the week of February 10th before - 2 years ago in fact. The weather was usually cool in the AM with warmer temps as the day went on. That being said, it could change daily and I would plan accordingly and bring everything.

I am from New Orleans where the weather is very similar with similar forcasts within a 24 hour period - ie: a front moves in to New Orleans and it is in Orlando within a day or two. This weekend there were children (and adults of course) running around in shorts and short sleeves with sandals. Today, when I drove my children to school it was 37 degrees - go figure.

Something similar could and does happen in Orlando in January and February.

As far as crowds you are missing the two major holidays that fall before and after your trip - MLK weekend and President's weekend so you should be O. K. Crowds were very managable the year we went.

Hope this helps!

we went in february 2 years ago and froze (being from nh we expected hot weather and stupidly packed shorts). i think we had one day in the 70's, the rest were 60's or lower. One never got above 45. However, the week before we were there it was 85 every day. I guess what I'm saying is that the weather is pretty fickly in Feb, so go prepared for anything. We did find out however, that sweatshirts make great souvineers, since we had forgotten ours in nh.
The crowds are pretty light, compared to holidays, so that should not be an issue.

We are February visitors as well. First week of Feb. 1996, it was really hot, at least to us Wisconsites, 80° and above. We were COOKING! Then in 2000 first week of Feb. we were very cold. Some of the days were 45-50° with rain and we froze because we didn't pack very well. We're from Wisconsin-we're tough! Yeah right! So this year we are going the same time you will be there. I am planning on mostly shorts, capris and for sure a sweatshirt at least, plus my winter coat I'll be wearing when we leave. As for crowds, both of the last times we were there in early Feb. crowds were almost nothing. The only thing I can remember waiting for was Test Track and that was new. We hit a cheerleader convention/competition and except for our hotel (All star sports) and one evening at MK you wouldn't even know they were there. We walked through the AK one day, it was cold, and there was NO one it sight. It was eerie and awesome at the same time. Congrats on the new DS and hope you have a great time.

First of all...Congratulations on your new addition! :teeth:
We will be there at the same time as you (Feb 3-12) and I checked on last year's weather for that time period...2 days had a high only in the 50's, 2 days had a high in the 80's, and the other 6 days were high 60's to high 70's. That's quite a temperature range over a 10 day time period! I think we need to pack a bit of everything.

 Hi See you are from Manitoba. Us Ontario. You have been frigid temperatures so Florida will be great. We also will be down at this time (go every year for month of Feb). Weather can be very flexible. Usually want jacket or sweat shirt at night. Some days can be cool also. However, even 50 is better than the -20 celius here right now (-1F) and I know you have had much colder than that. We find the 72 average is very close but have had much hotter and also the mid 50s as highs some years. Have fun with the new one.

As for crowds should be light that week- the next week and weekend much busier with Daytona 500 and Presidents Day

Thanks for your help! I don't get cold easily, but my DW does, and I guess the kids will need layers!!! I hope that the crowds aren't too bad, as you have said. This is going to be a much more relaxed trip than the last one, with not many (if any) thrill rides. Lots of Fantasyland, people watching, long, relaxed snack breaks, etc. We have annual passes from the last trip, so we can go to the parks each day for only a few hours, if the weather doesn't co-operate, and we won't feel like we are wasting a hopper day. If anyone has any thoughts about what to do / where to go when a 14 month old is napping (yah, right!) I would appreciate any advice! Thanks again!

Take along long pants as well as shorts, and jackets or sweaters, especially for the evening. The crowds should be manageable. The only event would be some cheerleading events at MGM. And the all star sports resort will have a lot of cheerleaders staying there. The busy season does not really start until around the middle of February, which is when Presidents week comes up, and after that, it's spring and Easter breaks right through the third week of April. Crowds are pretty heavy around those times.

I don't know if you guys believe in the Farmer's Almanac but according to FA, it will rain on Feb. 1 and 2, and be sunny and warm from Feb. 3-8. The average temparature for February will be 67 degrees.

And, as everyone has said, the crowds are very low (except during Presidents' Day weekend) and the weather pretty unpredictable!! For the most part, we've always been lucky. In 2000, we went the 8th-12th (or something similar) and it was in the 70s and sunny every day. In 2001 we went the 11th-15th (or something similar) and it was in the 80s and sunny every day). In 2002, we went at the end of Jan. through the 6th of Feb. and it was in the 80s one day, 70s another and 60s for several. We're planning to go to Universal this year for Presidents' Day and hoping it's good weather then! What does the Farmer's Almanac say about Feb. 12th-16th, zad's mom???!!??

Congratulations on your son and best wishes for a magical first trip with him to WDW!!!

Happy trails,
Sarah

wdwphanatic,

The Farmer's Almanac says that from Feb. 9 - 16 there will be showers, then sunny and cool. In other words, be prepared for anything.

I guess I'll just have to pack two suitcases for our Feb. trip - one for fall/winter and the other for spring/summer. ;)

Congratulations on your new little one! I think you'll have a great time. One of the most fun times my dh and I had was when our first little one was 1. She enjoyed looking at everything and had absolutely no impossible expectations (not true of our trip when she was almost 3:) )

While she napped, we took turns riding the grown-up rides we wanted to - be sure to take advantage of the baby swap. Also, we had a sling that was perfect for when she was asleep but we wanted to go to a quieter ride (just strapped her on and we were good to go - she was happy just being right next to Mommy or Daddy::yes:: )

We made early nights of it (which actually worked out better for all of us - babies and WDW are tiring and :Pinkbounc :bounce: )

Have fun!

What does the Farmer's Almanac say about Feb. 15th-21st, zad's mom???!!??

TIA

Hello FatCow.

The Farmer's Almanac says Feb. 17 - 19 sunny and warm. Feb. 20-24 sunny south, heavy rain elsewhere. Feb. 25-29 sunny, then t-storms.

i'm really hoping their prediction about heavy rain the 20-24 isn't true...we'll be there the 22-29, but they've never made an accurate prediction for nh (at least not as long as i've been alive) so i'm hoping it's the same for florida...

I appreciate your responding, though I've gotta say I don't like the forecast too much! I was hoping for warm and sunny (isn't everyone??!!??)... Oh well, being a Feb. visitor, I know I've got to be prepared for everything anyway!! :)

Have a great day,
Sarah

Being a FatCow, I'd rather have it colder (around 20 Celcius, no more than 24 Celcius).

But that's just my "Black Spotted Fat Moo Cow" side of me speaking :teeth:

We did a girls' trip last Feb 1-8. Epcot was as empty as I have ever seen it. On Monday when we went to MK it must have been a school holiday or something because the crowds were really bad. The crowds though in general were low. The weather turned out to be great. We had been watching the weather forecasts on the internet and the weeks before there were some really cold temps, but we lucked out the week we were there. It was sunny most of the week with temps around 52 in the am and 75 later in the day. We even went swimming a couple of nights after doing the parks. It turned colder on Saturday when were were leaving to come home. It was one of the best trips tp WDW we've done.

You make an interesting point about the MK. We don't even bother going there anymore. It seems like it is always crowded. Even on Sunday mornings, which at one time was the best time to go as the park was practically empty.
