crowds & heat in August

hello

this will be the first time we have been to WDW in the summer- we always go in Jan

okay- give it to me straight- what type of crowds can i expect in mid aug and will i die of heat

to an old pro- what are the best times to go to the parks with kids when it is hot as heck...

We have gone 3 tmes in August and the crowds are not as bad as July. It is HOT but just slow down and carry water. Alot of the countrys schools start going back in August. This helps lower the crowds. The park hours might be shortened but take advantage of EE. We actually loved August but have to go in July now because of my vacation at work.

We went during the 3rd week of August last year. It was very hot but manageable (of course I am from FL so I am somewhat used to the heat ) Bring plenty of water!

We always went to the parks right at opening. It is much less crowded and you can get a lot done in a short amount of time. We went back to the hotel to swim during the hottest part of the day (1PM-4PM) and then back to the parks for the evening.

MK closed at 7PM most nights (open later on Fri and/or Sat), AK closed at 5PM, MGM at 8:30PM and Epcot at 9PM.

I asked this question awhile back as we're going for the first time in August and everyone says use EE if you're staying onsite, drink a lot of water, take an afternoon break. We have 2 eride nights that are early ones (7-10 and 8-11) so we plan to do those if we can...at least one with the kids or one of the kids (we have a 5 and 1 yr old). Mission Space is supposed to open around Aug. 15th I think so it could mean additional crowds at Epcot I'd think. I know I'll be there!

We have no choice but to go in August this year too. We are usually early May/mid-September visitors. Last trip in Sept 2000 saw the temps in the mid 90's for 6 out of the 9 days, so I'm thinking this August can't be much worse!! Crowds will probably be more than we are used to, though.....

We went last August and the crowds weren't bad at all.

It'll certainly be much different than January. It will be hot like everyone already mentioned. You might want to purchase a gallon or 2 of water if you have access to a grocery store and fill up the smaller bottles to bring to the parks. I usually fill them up the night before and stick them in ice in the sink or ice buckets (depending on how many you have).

One other major difference from January is that August is rainy season. It rained every afternoon we were there last August, sometimes for hours. I'd highly recommend to start out as early as possible and make sure to pack ponchos, you'll want to bring them everyday with you no matter how beautiful it looks that morning because it doesn't drizzle in FL this time of year... it pours. and one last thing...ENJOY!!! We'll be there in August too

I can not think of anything that closed because of rain when we were there.

We will be there Labor Day weekend as well. This is the fourth year in a row we will be going the end of August. We love it. Yes, it's hot, but it is summer and we're used to it. We drink a lot of water and enjoy some of the a/c attractions. Crowds have been much lower than other times we've visited. We love that time and hope you do too!
