Crowds are crazy !!!

September seems to be a safe month still. Sadly my kids are in school now so we're stuck following suit with the masses. All good though. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than Disney World!!
even Sept not safe from where my friends kids grew up. places that have year round school ie 45/15. every week of the school year part or all the school kids are off. her kids went 45 days/ 9 weeks then had 15 days or 3 weeks off. her kids loved it as they use to say they got more days off than others did. and she knew in Feb the weeks her kids were off starting the following July as that was when the school year started

Animal kingdom!!!

Animal Kingdom always feels super busy to me. I think it's because of the tree cover and the bottle neck areas near Kali River Rapids and Mt. Everest. It's always super hot too. AK is my least favorite park if you couldn't tell lol.

Probably doesn't help that River of Lights is now up and running.

It's unbelievable. This is our 5th trip in 6 years and I'm ready to go home. Rides keep breaking down, can't move fastpasses around. I'm so disappointed.

Oh no!!! Hope it gets better... and then f it does not, to ur satisfaction... speak up at guest services in the park, while ur there.. so much planning and $$ for Disney.. broken down stuff repeatedly can def ruin the fun. Good luck!

OP-sorry you are there with the crowds, I know how disappointing it can be to go expecting one thing and end up with something way different. The last lengthy trip we took was Sept 2015 and it was very crowded, so much so that I was *almost* ready to hang up my Mickey ears forever.

I know now that Disney is changing and if I want to keep going I'm going to have to accept that. We were suppose to be heading down this Saturday but had to switch to May. I'm trying to try and plan for the crowds and just make the best of it, I know it's not going to get any better!

Enjoy the rest of your trip, pixie dust that it gets better for you!

FWIW, today was projected to be a 6 or 7 by one site and the 13th best week all year to visit by another.

Where do you get the best weeks from? I would like to see where my three weeks at wdw are at this year.
June 3rd to June 11th going to be bad
Sep 10 to sep 17. Should be rank pretty good
Dec 2 to dec 9th.

Take everything from all the posts above mine and you have the full span of why the crowds are crazy.

If you're looking for the concept of a "slow time" at Disney anymore, it doesn't exist.

Completely agree. Pretty sure that between all the races, festivals, and increasing Food and Wine to 2.5 months there is literally no more "slow times". I honestly now think that the best you can hope for is a slow day here and there in Sept or Jan (or maybe a day where there's a lot of rain forecasted that doesn't show up?).

Hmm..wait times really don't seem too bad at AK right now. Expected wait times are 18 for EE, 22 for Dinasaur, 29 for the Safari, and 45 for Kali.

It's a lot better then it will be during spring break as well as the summer months.

WAY WAY better then last week. I was there for the 1/2 marathon and it was packed. Thursday by 11am waits for the mountains were an 45+. Headed to AK in the evening and Dino, EE and Safari were 45+ and Kali was 65+ around 5pm. Saturday evening I was at MK and Space was 120 mins, 7DMT 120 mins, BTMR 70.... nothing was under 30 mins. Not even Mickey's Philarmagic.

I enjoy that, no matter what time of year these posts are made, there is always a large area of kids off school.

Kids have so many school breaks now I think it's impossible to hit Disney at a time when there isn't some state who is having a school break.

Add in the districts where there are year-round schools and there will always be a track off at any given time. And then there is the homeschool brigade that can take off whenever. And then the parents who pull their kids out whenever regardless of the school calendar. And... Yeah. Not really slow times any longer.

You buy a subscription to one of the crowd calendars. Although there are some that are free as well.

Animal kingdom!!!

EasyWDW didn't recommend AK today due to ROL showing tonight when it's been off the day before and tomorrow. That and schools in La having the week off, which drives crowds up a bit across the board. He says to stick around until after 6pm and wait times will drop, though people will still be everywhere.

Good luck!

For what it's worth, one of the main crowd trackers has today at a 7 out of 10 with AK being the worst. Rest of the week has overall at 6's and 5's.

That's what happened to us this past August! It happened to us a bunch of times, was very frustrating, def. put a damper on the trip.

This is a bit off topic, so apologies in advance.
It seems to be widely reported that attendance is down, but we frequently see threads pop up talking about crazy crowds. I agree there are no slow times anymore since Disney has introduced peak pricing and increased events offered during historically slow times, but I'm curious about what is causing the impression of increased crowds.
Is it FP + changing the flow? Decreased staff? Less ride capacity?
OP, hope you are able to move around the crowds and have a great time!

But IS attendance still down, or was that last year?

I can't bear to read the news right now, but given how difficult I'm finding it to book a cruise for the next few months, and all the threads like this one, it sounds like people are still traveling a lot. I know I believed after last year's terrorism, mass shootings, Zika virus, etc. that travel would be down this year. Good thing I don't work in any financial or betting sector. >.>
