Not sure if this is the place to ask this but can someone tell me what they consider "Thanksgiving Week"? Which days exactly?

I spoke with a Disney rep today and we are planning to check in on Wed Nov 16 and checkout Tue Nov 22. She assured me that those days would be fine as far as the crowds go. She said the "holiday" week actually starts on the 22nd.

We just want to know if we're going to be swamped with people when we go.

Looking at a popular website for park crowd numbers I would say that the CM you talked to was correct. It doesn't get crazy until the 22nd.

Have fun!

I sort of agree with her. We were there "Thanksgiving week" in 2006. If memory serves, we arrived the Friday before the holiday for MVMCP and left the Saturday or Sunday following Thanksgiving. After that week, we vowed never to visit WDW for a holiday again. I just don't love my fellow man enough to travel in those kinds of crowds.

That said, however, the crowd level gradually increased as the week progressed. The first weekend and early part of the week were manageable. If you're leaving on Tuesday, it shouldn't be too crazy, but I would still expect bigger crowds than at other times in November or early December.

Have you purchased the Unofficial Guide and/or subscribed to Touring Plans? That would help you to choose your parks to avoid the hordes.

Have fun!

I'm so glad you asked this. We'll be there the 14-21 and I was nervous too. I think we'll do a beach day on that Sunday or something if I'm nervous about crowds.

Anyone know if it's any worse than Spring Break after Easter is? I'm trying to talk DH into a Thanksgiving week vacation starting November 18

softballmom3 - We've never been but we read that Christmas week was the busiest, followed by Easter week (before & after), next was Thanksgiving.

That's what I was trying to figure out what exactly THanksgiving consisted of. Hopefully we will be fine.

We were originally planning this b/c we wouldn't need to take the kids out of school but that's what everyone wants to do. If we leave on Wed, the kids will only miss 3 days of school, we can get FD, all their sports are over for the season, and we will come home and have 5 days to recover before they go back to school. Yippee.

I called yesterday and they are holding our rooms for 7 days b/c we weren't sure of the dates. I'm calling back today to BOOK!

I'm in agreement with you. If I can get DH to agree I believe I am going to also.

My family and I have been the last 4 Thanksgiving weeks. Th CM you talked to was correct, I have not really noticed the crowds till Thanksgiving Day, so your dates should be fine.:thumbsup2
As for Thanksgiving being as crowded as Easter and Spring Break..NO!! Our first trip to the world was on a Spring Break/Easter week and my DH made me promise him we would never go again at that time:scared1:.
We will be going back this year from Nov. 19-26th and are excited as usual!!:cool1: WE love going this time of year due to the weather.. not to hot and not to cold!!!And we get to see all the Holiday decorations and events:santa:!!
Hope this helps!!

cosmicmuffin - Thanks so much for the positive reply. I'm getting really excited now and I'm feeling much better about going this week.

Will they have the decorations up during Thanksgiving week before Thanksgiving Day (Nov 19-22)?

We went during Thanksgiving Week in 2009. We arrived the Saturday before and stayed until the Saturday after. The days leading up to Thanksgiving were not bad at all, until Wednesday!!! Then it started getting busy and Thanksgiving day and the following Friday were just plain PACKED!!! (I'm talking FP for Soarin being gone by 9 am and then 3 hr wait times for it)

It was nice to see all of the Christmas decorations though and we also had our Thanksgiving dinner at CRT, which was extra special...they had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner selection, which was really good!!

We went last year and started our stay on Halloween and left the following Sunday. We were able to experience the Halloween decorations and on our last full day, 11/6, we were able to experience the MK with a lot of Christmas decorations already up. We were there the day before and MK still had fall decorations. We were amazed to see all the poinsettias throughout Main St. only a day later. We were able to get a family shot with toy soldiers & Christmas trees on Main St. for our Christmas card. We were staying at WL and that wasn't decorated when we left, but that was 11/7. Enjoy your trip:)

We did Thanksgiving Week a few years ago and the only day I remember being overly crowded was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving day. I just remember thinking how many people there were everywhere at Magic Kingdom. However, Thanksgiving Day didn't seem to be as crowded as it was the day before. We had such a great time that year that we decided to go again for our second Thanksgiving trip this November! We can't wait!

I am thinking of using this date also and staying until Thanksgiving day. We went in '09 at the end of May... could it be worse than that???:lmao:
