I know I have discussed this a little before. I have checked Touring Plans for our visit to Disneyland for the evening. What time of day do they figure out that number? We went last night just for fireworks, parade etc. I feel it was pretty crowded. Today it says it was a 2 and they predicted a 3. Long lines to go in. I wonder if it is more quiet in the mornings and by nighttime is larger than a 2 or 3?

Several factors:
MK reservations were full for yesterday for almost a month.
It was hot during the day so locals likely waited out the heat before going.
Friday nights are a very popular night for MK holders to visit the parks after work.

ETA: Today and tomorrow had MK reservations this week, but they are now full. While there may be cancellations, it is an indication that they are expecting a lot of people at the parks this weekend.

The number is calculated after the DL/DCA day and night is over. The flood of Keys in the park affects fireworks and F! viewing. Yesterday was a Tier 3 day $164. Touring Plans uses attraction times and other factors. Today is Tier 6 $206. Lower Keys are blocked today.

that sounds right. I think lots of MK holders. people were still coming in at 10 pm!

While I don't doubt that MK holders are arriving at 10 pm. When you say people are still coming in, are you looking at the entrance into Disneyland? DCA closes at 10 pm. The 2nd PTN starts at Main Street at 10:30 pm. A lot of people hop from DCA to DL around that time.

This entire month, the parks have been miserably crowded on the weekends and in the evenings. I’m sure restoration of the MK contributed to this, but it hasn’t been this bad in the past.

We were suppose to go with some out-of-town guests this weekend but rescheduled those plans for November. Just too hot out to be that miserable.

We saw people getting off the trams and getting on the trams last night. it was after 10 but you are right. maybe they were there for the parade.

Touring plans say it was a 2 overall and 1 at Disneyland. I wouldn't ever want to be there for a 10! They predicted a 3. I know when you start out early morning the crowd grows by afternoon. We went around 5:30 pm.

I was at the parks last night (Saturday night of Labor Day weekend). Both the parks and DTD were more crowded than usual. To me, it appeared to be more locals than tourists.

I'm not sure why any crowd predicting website would list a holiday weekend as low crowds.

Tier 6 day $206.

Touring Plans Observations:

Overall Crowd 4/10

Disneyland 2/10
DCA 6/10

yes I agree! I knew it would probably be busy on Friday night and being Labor Day weekend as well. I have no idea how they even came up with it being a 2 overall and predicted a 3. oh well. It may have been low crowds during the daytime. The parade was very very crowded.

Touring Plans is pretty accurate. The heat is a factor, Also all the Tier 0 days $104 tickets were very low attendance and all the Keys were unblocked.
Today is a Tier 6 day $206 they predict 3/10 all around. The lower 2 Keys are blocked. It is forecast to be 94 in Anaheim.

July 4th weekend this year was legitimately low crowds. But Believe was blocked 2 of the days and it wasn't Halloween. The fall is always a bit different with the OBB early closure of DCA it kind of messes up crowd flow all week long (even though I realize no early closures took place over the holiday weekend). And Labor Day is not the middle of summer so I do think it's more locals like you said.

And for Friday night I assume the locals went after work since it is open until midnight.
I just thought a 3 was low crowds but it really doesn't seem to be that. it did not feel like a 2 when we went. I guess I am looking at it the wrong way.

Not sure how accurate it is, but someone on social media said Friday night they closed the parks to those entering due to capacity issues. It might have been around the time you were talking about. It looked like they were trying to let the masses from the first parade and fireworks leave before they let new guests in.

Last night was crowded both for the parades and attractions. Lots of blankets along the parade route makes me think that those who were waiting were locals. Tourists don't tend to bring blankets into the parks. We rode HMH during Fantasmic. Very few people were in LL so the standby line moved quickly. That makes sense. LL is mostly used by tourists and tourists are likely watching nighttime entertainment around 9 pm.

How can you say that when they predicted low crowd levels, but someone who was actually there said, "Both the parks and DTD were more crowded than usual." Doesn't sound very accurate to me.
If you look at the wait times for the attractions it was not crowded at one point RoR was 35 minutes in the afternoon and Peter Pan was 25 minutes, both touring plans and the thrill datas site both are accurate. Locals and Keys flood after 6. it was $206 ticket day...it was all the locals and Keys flooding after work.

I snapped this picture as we were trying to leave NOS and get to Frontierland last night. They wouldn't let us into Frontierland either by River Belle or by Adventureland Bazaar. They directed everyone out to Main Street to make a U turn to enter Frontierland.

I took the picture because people on this forum often think that it will be easy to get from Point A to Point B after a show. If you don't know the layout of the park and you are swimming upstream in a crowd like this, it is easy to get turned around. This photo was taken at 9:50 pm, ten minutes after fireworks ended.

We arrived around 5 pm and wait times were not that low. ROTR said 45 min but, based on the queue outside, it looked like it was over an hour. I'm guessing the low wait times were when it was 95 degrees +75% humidity. 😅
