crowd level after Thanksgiving?

I saw on another site http://www.scottware.com.au/theme/feature/atend.htm
that crowds actually drop after Thanksgiving and then gear up again before Christmas. I thought it was just one busy, escalating madhouse from Thanksgiving to New Years.

Can anyone confirm or deny the typical low crowd level in early december?

I have been reading up on this question because we are thinking of going the Sunday through Wednesday immediately after Thanksgiving, in the hopes of missing the holiday weekend crowds but beating the Christmas rush.

What I've learned is that there is no way to predict what will happen because this year has been crazy. Sorry!

Well, at least I'm not the only one trying to plan.

I have gone the week after Thanksgiving, and experienced low crowds mid-week (it was raining, as well). December weekends are crazy -- always crazy. But mid-week the first 2 weeks are typically not horrible. I'd call them moderately crowded.

Obviously the AP's have made things interesting, but in general the time between is those two holidays is not too crowded. I have been in that time frame twice, most recently Dec 2-9 of 08, and week days were very manageable. You would have to wait till the 2nd week in Jan to find lower crowds.
