I am trying to plan our first ever trip to DL. We have been to WDW 10 times now and know our way around there.

We usually go to WDW late May/early June because the summer crowds are picking up but Id say not in full force yet.

Our kids get out of school in May 28th 2010, so when would you go? Is early June any less crowded then lets say late June?

There is also the issue of weather. We like it warm and was looking forward to the lesser humidity levels, any big difference between early June vs late June?

How is early August weather and crowds? maybe we could sneek in a trip later this summer if a "bargain" is to be found?

Thanks everyone!!!!

Yes

Early June gets a little weird in So Cal. Sometimes a little rain, overcast, ugly out. Late June is postcard summer!

August is hot and crowds are, well, it's summertime at Disneyland!

It sounds like maybe mid to late June would be better weather wise. What do you wear to the parks in mid to late June? Does it get chilly at night?

But what do you guys call hot in Aug? Is it both hot and humid?

What do you think?

Humidity is not an issue here, pretty much non existant compared to Florida. Remember, this is the desert, so warm days and cooler nights. Shorts are fine during the day, but maybe a sweatshirt for the evenings. July and August can be hot, 80's, 90's are typical, but if you can survive Florida during those months, that will seem mild.

For our most recent trip (this past May) it was almost too hot for me, early June would be just fine I imagine, mid-late June of 2006 was awful ~ way too hot. Don't worry about humidity in the west.

Is early June good weather? From the wunderground website it says that the average high is around 76. Way to cool to swim in my book. But maybe real nice temps for the parks. Do you carry around your sweatshirt/jacket for early morning/late evening times?

What are park hours like from early June till late June? (we usually like to stay out late after we had a swim/rest in the afternoon but this is our Florida stradegy.)

How about shows/fireworks? I'm guessing they dont do them every night if its not full swing of summertime attendence?

I just cant figure out when to go:idea:

June can have what they call "June Gloom," which we love. Can be overcast in the morning (but not cold, just nice), and then it burns off and is warm for the rest of the day. Last year we noticed they didn't have it as much, it was pretty warm on our last June trip.

They do have humidity, I come from a VERY dry place, so I know what dry is. We actually love it, it's a nice change from where we come from. But like Florida? NO WAY! LOL Now that is humid.

Frankly I think it's always busy at the parks. With June you get a lot of school field trips (we always see lots of teens running around). Grad nights, which just make the parks close early. Then of course once the kids are out of school, the crowds pick up to summer time crowds. We typically love going in June though.

As I said above, early June is gloomy and overcast.

I am sitting in my family room right now with the side door open. There is no sunshine. The sky is cloudy and completely overcast. There is a light breeze. The sun is up there, but completely covered by the total cloud cover. If I had to guess it is about 70 out. Out the front window there are a few patches of blue sky between clouds.

I am wearing jeans and a lightweight 3/4 sleeved shirt. I will have a lightweight sweatshirt with me when I go out later tonight. Might even throw the umbrella in the car as some of those clouds are dark and they said chance of drizzle on the weather this morning. Typical early June So Cal day.

Does that help?

OK, some lingo first. ;)

Around here "DL" means DisneyLand which is a theme park parallel to MK at WDW.

"DLR" means Disneyland Resort which is a Disney resort parallel to WDW.

We know what you mean when you say DL but want you to be part of the "in" crowd and not look like a DLR newbie. :cool2:

Here are some useful links:

"Comparison of Weather For WDW and DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1711098

Early June is off-season at DLR and there are some issues there:

Have a great trip! DLR is truly magical.

HydroGuy- I am soooo embarresed!!:tilt: Thank you for helping me out!!

I have heard about you and that you know just about everything there is to know about DLR!!!! and should write your own guide book!! I wish someone would.

I cant wait to read the links!!!

Disney Dreams- Thanks to you to, I m thinking Id want it to be a tad bit warmer than what you are experiencing now. I'm in Illinois and we have had a cold wet spring and would really like to have some sunshine!!!!
We just got back form WDW and had wonderful weather!!!

Early-June would be less crowded than late-June...

but unlike WDW, the nightly entertainment at DLR is limited in early-June.

The first week of June probably won't have fireworks, Fantasmic, or the Electrical Parade on the weekdays.

The second week of June probably won't have Fantasmic or the Electrical Parade on the weekdays.

Based on previous years, it's likely that the fireworks, Fantasmic, and the Electrical Parade will start being shown every night of the week starting on Friday, June 11, 2010 (until late-August).

HTH :earsboy:

Edited to add: After posting I see that HydroGuy mentioned the off-season in a previous post. :goodvibes

:disrocks:

I do not know what I would do without everyone here!!!

You people are great.

I'm getting excited at the thoughts of going to the Walt's original park.

I'm sure I will like the less walking to get somewhere as well as the cooler temps. :cloud9:

Im thinking that we will try for the third week of June 2010 in hopes of seeing the shows/fireworks.

Do you think 3 days will be enough to cover it all?

Not true! Really! I like to spot trends and common mistakes people make and help them avoid them. I like to challenge conventional wisdom such as "summer is a bad time to visit DLR". Not! It is my favorite time to go. So I wrote a thread explaining why.

I do not come close to "knowing everything" about DLR. I will admit to knowing a lot about a few things though. ;)

Cover it all? In three days? No. Three days is enough to have a solid and satisfying visit and cover most things. If you start early each day. If you want to cover it all a fourth day would help. If you are a late riser then a fifth day might be needed.

IMO three days at DLR would be roughly equivalent to seven days at WDW. Enough time to have lots of fun and feel like you did a lot. But not enough to cover it all. :)
