We've always stayed onsite, at GC since it was built, but our upcoming trip in April we're looking at saving a bit of money and possibly staying offsite. I've been researching all the hotels in walking distance, but what I can't tell is how difficult is it to cross Harbor Blvd. It looks like a large potentally busy road, is it difficult / dangerous to cross?

There's a nice big cross-walk right across from the tram/buss drop-off area that leads to the Esplanade, so it's not difficult to cross at all (although it can get a bit crowded :rotfl:).

It is really easy to cross the road as there are a number of cross walks with traffic lights including one at the main walkway entrance to DL.

SUPER easy. And I say that having experienced offsite walking with toddlers. Don't even worry about it :)

huge crosswalks with loads of people crossing, you will be fine. the only place I've seen less people crossing is at Manchester when you stay at the HoJo and even then we've never had any problems crossing there at all. :)

If you do it at the crosswalk when the walk light is on, it will be ok. The one in front of the bus drop off area has a countdown for when the light will turn so you know how much time you still have.

As the other posters have indicated you must cross at a light. I have crossed at the light at the main entrance and the one to the north at Manchester (near Hojos and Fairfield). While the Manchester cross walk is less crowded, the light does not last as long as the one at the main entrance. If your toddlers are in strollers, this wont matter, but if they are walkers, you might want to use the one at the Main entrance. At, Manchester, I have started to cross as soon as it changes and the light is at the end of its countdown as I get to the other side. I have often thought that anyone moving slowly would not make it within the time allotted.

There are MASSIVE crosswalks--it is very very obvious where it is safe to cross. With that said, those crosswalks do get very crowded and I don't think people are very polite at them...and there are a LOT of people getting in a "last smoke" before they get onto Disney property--which was a problem for my asthmatic children who were right at cigarette level. That was a pretty disgusting experience.

There's no way to cross except at a crosswalk as there is a small fence that runs down the middle of Harbor Blvd. to discourage jay walkers.

Thanks everyone. Just to clarify, of course I would use the cross walk, I was more concerned about how fast the cars go, how good are they about paying attention and stopping. The street map was really helpful, thanks, but that looks like quite a busy street, is it 6 lanes wide? I think it will probably be fine if we decide to do it. Thanks again everyone!

Very easy! We crossed multiple times a day with our 3 little ones. It is a big, busy road, but there's ALWAYS a crowd crossing at once and the traffic really has no choice but to stop. There's adequate time on the "Walk Signals" to get across s well.
