Cross country trip to DL??? Anyone done it?

Hi,

We live in Middle Tennessee, and my husband and kids have never been to the west coast. We've been toying with a "road trip" to Disneyland (Been to WDW in FL many times). Has anyone done one? I-40 is pretty much a straight shot to the area, but we'd like to hit some sites on the way there and back to make it a true road trip adventure. Obviously, the Grand Canyon, and maybe Hoover Dam, but are there other things/places that would break up the trip (those sites are all pretty much on the tail end of the trip west) and still allow us some time to take in DL/DCA and perhaps some other attractions in CA? We're figuring on a 2 week trip. Also - what is a good time to go to Disney in Anaheim?

I have no suggestions, but it sounds like great fun! I might even go for 3 weeks, if your family is up to it.

We stopped in Oklahoma City to see the Federal Building Memorial. Also outside of Amarillo Texas is the Cadillac graveyard--all these cars planted nose down in a field. That was a few years ago, don't know if it's still there or not. I belong to AAA so I got a Triptik before I left. It was great for telling how far between towns and points of interest.

the cadillac graveyard is still there! We stopped and took some cute pics there 2 years ago. We have driven from oklahoma several times.

Thinking of doing it in early june from KC.

We've flown the last two times but need to stay tight on the expenses. We also have toyed with Grand Canyon/maybe Vegas if we drive I70 back home.

24 hours one way in a car doesn't sound like too much fun though.

I've done the cross-country thing 3 times with young kids--from SoCal to WDW, to Virginia and Washington, DC, and to Chicago. We stop overnight and take our time so we can see as much as possible. And this was before the days of movies in the car!
