We leave wed for our first universal trip! Before I head out in search of pants that have a side pocket for my phone I thought I would check and see if small cross body bags were OK? Like vera bradly mini hipster? I really don't want to deal with a locker and we will have lanyards for our tickets.
Thanks!

I'm not sure about the other rides, but right now, HRRR and Hulk have a policy of NO loose articles other than possibly lanyards. They were even requiring people remove wallets, keys etc. from their pockets.

I was there two weeks ago but Hulk or HRRR were the only things I didn't ride. I had no problem with my phone in my pocket on everything else.

NO ..On rides that do not allow bags, crossbodys will not be allowed. They ONLY allow waistpacks, and specifically waistpacks with 3 prong clasps ( and on both gringotts and forbidden journey they wanted to see it -I just got back 2 weeks ago).If you try to hide it and they see it( not saying you would do this, but I did see afew women try this ), they will send you off the line and to the lockers. On Hulk and Rip Ride Rocket they do not allow anything loose, and that includes waistpacks

many of the rides at universal orlando will not allow you to ride with any loose articles. that would include a small cross body bag. that also includes lanyards.
these things must be held by someone now going on the ride or put in a locker.
i think it sucks but that is their policy.
i love that disney allows you to take your belongings with you.

Lanyards are being allowed. They can't not allow those. They contain the express passes, for one.

lanyards are not an issue for the rides.
you are told to tuck the lanyard under your clothing for the coaster rides.

ok! thanks so much for all the info. I had no luck with a flattering zip pocket cargo pant. So I am going to plan B of wearing my jacket and putting my phone in the inside pocket. :0

wearing a jacket will work.
but it wouldn't be fun wearing a jacket if you went in the middle of summer

:(

I'd asked elsewhere if a cross body bag would work. We're going in a few days. I might pack a light spring jacket to "hide" my bag. Could someone post a link to the kind of lanyards you use for your tix? I have several styles at home and want to avoid buying something I may already own. Are the tix like a credit card that can get hole-punched or do you need a lanyard with a clear pocket?

I don't know about the bag.

The lanyards they sell are here: https://www.universalorlando.com/Merchandise/ProductList.aspx?q=lanyard The clear pouch seals with a zip-lock type to keep the tickets / passes dry.

In 2012, the tickets were paper tickets the size of a cc. Each person was supposed to sign theirs, and they are linked to you by your fingerprint. We just made sure there was a name on each one so that everyone had their own ticket and we weren't holding up the line.

UCT shipped this year's tickets on Monday, so they will probably be here tomorrow. I'll be able to tell then if they are still paper or not.

Note that you can also find nice lanyards on ebay. I got all our HP lanyards off ebay this year. I will have to buy plastic sleeves with zip-lock type closures for each, but I wanted the boys to have them beforehand. They just used the Disney lanyards with the coin purse pouches last time.

Any lanyard you have will work if it has a clear plastic pouch. Just be sure the pouch zips closed to avoid soaking it, either on one of the wet rides or in the rain. I'm getting 12 off ebay for $4.50 with free shipping. I'm set for life. :)

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I have some with a pouch (they are probably from the dollar store). I think we also have AO lanyards from a RCL cruise that have a pouch. I need to dig into my vacation drawer tonight and see what lovelies I can dig up.

If they can see your bag, they will make you put it in a locker on the rides where no bags are allowed.

I wouldn't do this..The TMS look very carefully, and if they see it , you will be sent off the line to the lockers. Not worth it .Nor is it worth losing anything on the rides

This is absolutely correct. Crossbody bags are great for Disney, but not at Universal Studio parks. I always wear my small fanny pack and I always make sure I am not covering it up when I get on a ride, so that the ride attendant can see it. When we approached the Hulk ride, the attendant saw my fanny pack and also my Fiance's phone in his pocket and made us go over to get a locker. They don't want anything loose falling out. I have witnessed people arguing with the ride attendants because of this, but really who wants to be smacked with a flying cell phone while you are walking though the park? Ouch! :headache:

I also think the locker system is really easy to manage. I don't think it adds more than a minute or two most of the time to go get a locker and stash your belongings. It can get a little chaotic in some of the tight quarters when it's busy, but on the whole I felt like using the lockers was no big deal.

if you run past the time of free locker usage due to a ride breakdown or longer lines than expected, you still won't have to pay for that free locker.
get a TM and explain why you were delayed, they are aware when rides break down or lines exceed the predicted wait.
the TM will open your locker and no charge to you.

they might ask you to describe something in the locker to verify you are the user of it.

i have found the lockers convenient and easy to use.

thanks for the advice. just how many rides have a no loose items restriction?

lol.. I'm toying between buying a new camera or not and leaning towards not if I cant bring it on a ride with me!

Hulk, Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge, Rip Ride Rockit, Mummy, Men in Black, Gringotts cannot have loose articles.

Can someone explain why the no loose articles on men in black to me? I get all the others but I always consider men in black just a little more intense then toy story at dhs and can't figure out why no loose articles. Are they allowed on Simpsons? That seems more intense/likely to have things fall then men in black.
