I was wondering if my fellow Canadians might have some advice. My dh will be heading out for a road trip to visit some friends in Illinois this Easter weekend. He was wondering if it would be better to cross at Sarnia or Windsor. He will be crossing at about 6-7 am on Good Friday.
Thank you for any help you can provide, we are only familiar with the Niagara Region bridge crossings.

This was some advice we were given last summer when driving to Chicago. Cross at Windsor because if there is some blockage at the border there is more than one crossing in Windsor whereas there is only one crossing at Sarnia. The connection to the bridge is well marked from the 401.

Needless to say we crossed at Windsor and it was straightforward. We crossed at 5-6pm on a Saturday near the end of August. The border guard was a little grumpy but you can't control that.

That early on Good Friday I would hope that there's not much traffic on either bridge (or tunnel). Crossing at Sarnia is a more direct line to Chicago so that might work out better.

And having worked cross border in Detroit years ago, I remember the guards being grumpy all the time. Guess nothing has changed...

Thank you both for your reply. I will report back how it goes. Not sure which one he is planning yet! :)

There should be no issues crossing the Bluewater Bridge on Friday at that hour, if you are still considering it.

My preferred route is to go via Sarnia and after crossing the bridge, follow Highway 69 across most of Michigan rather than 94. Great highway and avoids the more densely populated areas.
