Crocs Warning

Holy Crow!!!! So glad to hear there weren't any injuries! Like all shoes, there have been warnings for years about escalators. Always watch your kids shoelaces (and your own) most sneakers have extra long laces and those are a huge danger on escalators. Also, flip flops. Anything that has the potential to get caught. I always try to tell my kids not to step so forward on the step, try to stand more in the middle and to adjust themselves once they step on. I've seen this happen before and it's a truly frightening site. Made me shake for at least an hour afterward! Thank goodness she was able to pull her foot out in time!

Oh gosh I am so glad she was okay! There as a news story on here a few months back about Crocs and escalators.

Thank you for the reminder, my kids will be wearing them on our trip next week.

I am so glad your DD is okay. My stomach flips just thinking about what could have happened. Thanks for the warning. I had not heard anything about this. I was debating about buying my kids crocs, but I think I will pass after seeing these pictures.

Pretty scary. Glad she is ok. I was going to buy them for my boys but probably won't now until they are older. Both are so hard headed I could tell them 50 times a day not to do something and sure enough they do. Maybe when they become older and will listen a little better they can have some.

Oh, my!! I'm glad to hear your DD is okay- her Croc is maimed for life!!

My 8 year old DD had a Croc vs. escalator incident this past summer- we went on a cruise to the Caribbean, and we were at the terminal in San Juan, disembarking after 7 wonderful days. DH, DD, and I were going down the escalator with our carryon stuff, when all of a sudden. DD started screaming. She had got her Croc (and apparantly her big toe) stuck in the area between the moving steps and the railing wall. I managed to pull her free, but nearly ripped her toenail off in the process- she was bleeding everywhere! We got her calmed down, and I fixed her up with my trusty first aid kit, but we were all really shaken up over it. Glad it happened at the end of the vacation instead of the beginning!!

DD is now really wary of escalatirs, whether she's wearing Crocs or not.

My DH warned me about this. I never would have it happen to me, I always jump over that part. I always tell my boys to jump too. Guess I figured my 28 year old husband could figure out how to walk on his own. Who knew he intentionally dragged his feet over that part.

Glad your DD is okay. Too bad for the CROC though.

My dd8 was standing backwards facing me on the escalator up to the TTA and we had a similar situation. She yanked her foot out, but the croc was mangled.

The funny part is that my mil was telling me about the dangers of crocs before our trip and I just rolled my eyes and thought "yeah right". I think that it is important, no matter what shoes, to step up when you get to the end of the escalator.

Glad your dd wasn't injured! What shoes did she wear at Epcot for the rest of the day?

Good Morning America did a piece on this a while back. It was about kids standing with their feet touching the sides. Never would have thought it but it makes sense. Some kids have really gotten their feet mangled. Glad you daughter is OK.

ya know - i have always been a bit sketchy on escalators, with my own feet and with my kids. i always taught the boy (who is too old/big for me to hold his hand and hike him up in the air when we come to the part on the escalator where the stairs flatten out) to be aware of his shoe laces and the "teeth" on those things catching his shoes. DD is still young enough that i can do the hand hold, hike her way from the edge and up in the air a bit when we reach the end of the track.

it seems my slight paranoia was not unwarranted.

i recall a few years back a very well publicized case of a child being caught in an escalator at a SEPTA (public transportation here in philly) station. how horrific. i think that was the case that spawned my paranoia above.

That could happen to someone wearing any type of clothing item.

A friend of ours has a dd who was 3 at the time a department store escalator grabbed and tore her pant leg! Luckily someone hit the emergency stop button before it was too late. Our friend was just about to rip the pants off her DD.

I think the bottom line is....EVERYONE needs to use escalators carefully.

Watch the kids since they are having too much fun to watch for themselves.

I saw a story about this on the local news - the Metro transit people were saying you have to be REALLY careful with Crocs and other soft shoes.

I am glad to hear that your daugter was not hurt. My daughters teacher wears them and she mentioned that someone said they are dangerous on elevators. I thought the person was carzy till now.

What a timely reminder. I have always been leery of escalators, and have been careful with my kids on them. Yesterday at the mall I realized that I wasn't as worried about my boys riding them. I guess I needed the wake up call. I'm so glad your DD is ok!

I haven't read all this thread, but the other thing to watch for on escalators is untied Tennis Shoes. I have seen more then one kids shoe lace caught in them.

I think that happens because kids seem to love to cling to the side of the escaltor.

While we're on the subject of what to be careful of on escalators...long hair and strings attached to clothing. A child (or even an adult) who leans down can easily get their hair or clothing caught, and I don't even want to think about what could happen next. Also, I just can't stand to watch parents take a stroller, with a baby in it, up an escalator. I ALWAYS find the elevator what I have a stroller, even if it means going out of my way.

Thanks for all the well wishes for my dd. I remember hearing stories about clothing getting caught in escalators, but I guess you ride on them so much that it just doesn't seem to be a big deal. I would have never thought of crocs getting caught in them, until this and then checking into it. Out of all of us, she is the one who usually wears the strap up front. I am glad she did now. After it happned, we bought her some socks and Buzz Lightyear shoes. None of the girls shoes fit. Like I said, we just thank the Lord that he was watching over her and nothing happned. It really is scary when you think what if.....

Dh was pushed on an escalator once by a guy rushing. Dh fell on the teeth and sliced his hand open on the edge of a step. those things have always scared me with the kids. And seeing teens with baggy pants freaks me out!

The moving walk way after the new Nemo ride in the Living Seas caught my Daughters Crock heel last week. It messed up the shoe some (nothing like what was pictured here) and scared the heck out of us but her foot was fine.
