Crocs and Back Pain

Last month I bought a air of Crocs (Islander style). I was thrilled when they arrived and eager to wear them after all of the rave reviews on this site. After a week of wearing them I developed the worst lower back pain I have ever experienced. It was so bad that I missed a day of work and spent hundreds of dollars on massages. A doctor friend of mine who saw me wearing the Crocs said that they were almost certainly the culprit.

After my lower back healed, I wore the Crocs again for a half hour just to see if they were indeed the source of the problem. Sure enough, the pain soon began again and I had to take off the Crocs.

I am so disappointed. I cannot bear to throw my Crocs out, but I will not be wearing them again.

I am sorry your Crocs caused back pain. It's funny that you said that, though. I have two friends who recommended Crocs to aleviate lower back pain, and they both have raved about how well thit backs feel, now.

I have a pair of sandal type knock-offs, and if I wear them too much (like every day for a week), they tend to give me a back-ache.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I have the opposite problem!! I go to Disneyland about once or twice a year and always have back pain and get blisters from all the walking. I just went two weeks ago and wore my Crocs Athens the whole time. I had absolutely no back pain whatsoever and I did not get one blister.

Maybe it's just the type of Crocs you have???

I bought the Crocs due to rave reviews on the DIS and I know that most people enjoy Crocs because they help to alleviate back pain. That's why my experience with them is such a mystery.

Hmmm... Interesting.

Two years ago, I fell down my stairs and herniated a disk. The disk later shifted and left me with 50% mobility in my left leg because it was choking a nerve. After surgery 4 months later, I had a "notch" made in my disk to get the pressure off the nerve, but I still have a herniated disk.

However, I am on my feet 6 hours a day because I work in foodservice and also walk 45 minutes for exercise each day... all in my Airwalks. (And, YES, I bought Crocs first, but I returned them because they didn't fit my feet as well... So no slamming the "knock-offs." LOL!) I have had hardly any back pain to speak of, other than when I lift something the wrong way or something.

Are you sure your pain isn't caused by something else? Back pain can be triggered by many different activities. My 8th grade teacher herniated a disk by simply sitting down into a chair...

Did you have another pair of shoes that you wore all of the time before you started wearing your crocs? I ask this because I spend most of my time in the boots I work in, and when I wear any other shoes there are definatly pain issues. I have backpain anyway, so shoes alone do not cause the problem, but they certaintly excrabate it.
