I just got a new crock pot..or slow cooker..and I am looking for some recipes. We have already tried chili and BBQ pork, just using those seasoning packets you find at the grocery store. Please share your favorite recipes! Thanks!!!

there are a few good threads over on the cooking board. I have gotten a really good pot roast recipe from the DIS.

Beef Roast
1 packet italian dressing
1 packet ranch dressing/dip
1 packet brown gravy
1/2 cup water (I like to use wine)
***About 3 tbs Corn starch mixed with about 1/4 cup water to thicken gravy (optional)
***carrots, potatoes, onions (optional)

Place roast and veggies in crock. Mix packets with water and pour over roast. Cook on low for 6 - 8 hours. Take roast and veggies out. Turn cooker to high and after about 10 minutes, thoroughly stir in cornstarch slurry and cook for about 10 min stirring.

I have just done a meatloaf in the crock too and it came out great! I use my normal recipe and cooked for about 6 hours on low...my pot cooks fast.

I have made pot roast six ways to Sunday following a gazillion recipes in the past. Honestly they all taste the same. Last week I grabbed the McCormick Pot Roast seasoning packet, threw in some onions, carrots and celery and let it go. It was a bit salty but otherwise had the most flavor of all the pot roasts I have tried. I'd grab that packet and try to duplicate the seasonings on there to get the most flavor. Maybe I never put enough seasonings in it when I do it.

Steak Merlot. Amazingly good and your family will think you've gone gourmet.

Steak Merlot

tough, cheap piece of steak--flank steak or chuck roast
1 sliced onion
4 cubed potatoes
a bag of baby carrots
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup merlot

I layer the bottom of the crockpot with veggies, then put the roast in, then layer more veggies on top. You can salt & pepper the veggie layers, if you wish. Then add 1 cup Merlot. Turn it on LOW for 8 hours, or HIGH for 4 hours.
Serve with fresh green beans and sauteed mushrooms.

I swear, you will slap your grandma!
