CRO -- what's happening?

It wasn't all that long ago (1 - 2 years) there were all kinds of rumors about how WDW was phasing out CRO (Central Reservations Office), the office through which individuals can make room-only reservations. The idea was that only packages would then be available.

It doesn't seem to have happened. Since I joined DVC I haven't kept up with developments. Is this rumor now officially dead, or the fate of CRO still up in the air?

I haven't heard anything about CRO closing but I can't imagine that would happen. Disney still offers up plenty of room-only codes, so I doubt they want to get rid of that option. Plus, CRO books packages as well as dining and other WDW things.
