Critter Country Down For Six Weeks?

An Editor's Note on MiceAge today from the venerable Al Lutz says Critter Country will be down for six weeks starting tomorrow.

Editor's Note 1/25: In a budget-driven move, Disneyland suits have decided to wall off Critter Country this Wed. for 6 weeks. With Splash Mt. down for rehab until late May and the Hungry Bear Restaurant closed until early Mar, the land is now a ghost town. After a week of sunny weather that could only muster half-empty canoes, an almost rider-less Pooh attraction, and tiny souvenir sales, the labor savings involved won out and the decision was made to shut the land down until they can at least get the Hungry Bear open in early Mar. The Canoes, a notorious labor hog for very few riders, may operate sporadically (or not at all) this Spring until Splash reopens May 26th. - Al Lutz

...my kids love the pooh ride and I love the photo spot with Pooh et al in there...poo!

Wow, that is a long time! I don't think I ever seen a big chunk (or "Land") of DL closed for an extended long period such as 6 weeks.

While I can see the logic in this, we'll definitely miss Pooh on our trip in February. My two year old loves it!

I'm really bummed too. We love Pooh and the store next to it. :(

I think they should have just left it all open, regardless of what's being refurbished back there.

I am sooooo glad we moved our trip from February to earlier this month. We did so because ds6's favorite last time was Splash. But ds3's favorite ride last time was Pooh! He loved it this time as well (as did dd18mos).

Two things I was looking forward to doing on my son's first visit to DL this Februrary: Winnie the Pooh ride, and a Tigger Tail. Argh! Seriously, is that not THE best ride for an almost 3 year old?

This is really sad. SM was closed the first time I took my son and it was nice because of how quiet critter country was. We got to ride Pooh over and over. I'm disappointed my dad won't be able to see the area. :(

:( Thats really sad! That's a fabulous area of the park. Its sad that many will be missing it during those weeks.

Incredibly :scared1:, the official Disneyland site has neither the canoes nor the Winnie the Pooh ride listed under "Closed for Refurbishment" on Wednesday, January 25 or Thursday or Friday ...

Al has made a mistake or 2 in his time but for the most part, his news has been accurate.

Let's check tomorrow to see if it's closed for sure.

This information was actually posted over on MousePlanet first (yesterday). It sounds like a very recent decision. It has also been confirmed on another thread here on these boards by a Disney World CM.

Very bummed. We all were looking forward to multiple rides on Pooh this week. Plus we LOVE the little bakery next door. That's the only place we buy our Tigger tails. Where can we get them now?

Yes and hopefully there are some disboarders there right now that can give us updates when they return home.

you can't!

That's THE only place to buy them!

These are my sons fav and really the only treats he eats at DL. Sad!

Anyone know if they will sell them at another shop/bakery while critter country is closed??

I could understand closing this on the weekdays, but why a weekend? We were planning on using CC as a quiet refuge in the afternoons.

I think they should give more notice about closing an ENTIRE land! We have had this trip planned and booked for 6 months. Just another thing that would never happen at WDW.

Aw I will miss Splash terribly when I go back in March (but I knew it was closing, so that's why we rode it twice on our last night, even though it was cold!! :))
And I will miss the Pooh ride and Pooh meet & greet. But it's a smart move to save money. I'll get to see it all again this summer anyway!
