Please critique my dining reservations. We are on the Deluxe Dining Plan for the last week of March 2012. We are staying at the Boardwalk. We have 3 children 10, 9 and 5. We will be celebrating our babies 6th birthday while we are on vacation. We are open to suggestions for changes, but some are set in stone as we have reservations with friends and the kids picked out some meals. I am concerned with Coral Reef particularly because of some of the reviews I have read on here.

I haven't patronized many from your list. I enjoy Le Cellier, the Yachtsman Steakhouse and Coral Reef very much. I'm not crazy about Tony's or Sci-Fi. That said, don't let bad reviews deter you from trying anything. The detractors are always a vocal minority ... even where the Coral Reef is concerned.

Your reservations look good but if you are on the deluxe dining plan aren't you short quite a few meals.

The deluxe plan has 3 credits a day and you only have 17 credits and it looks like you are going to be there 7 or 8 nights

We have ate at coral reef several times and enjoyed it

We are booking another breakfast for the day we are leaving but doing quick service for the other meals.

Have been to almost all of those restaurants...here's my 2 cents worth...

Hollywood & Vine is the worst restaurant at Disney, IMO. Mediocre food, smallest selection on breakfast buffets we've gone to, and the worst service (both breakfast & dinner). We had 8:05 reservations before park opening and barely got out before 9:00 park opening (no kids with us, so no interest in the characters. We were actually done eating at 8:35...took the waitress -nearly 25 minutes to get our check straight & get us checked out. We will not go back there under any circumstances. Would not recommend this place to anyone unless you absolutely have to go for the characters...

Another one on your list I would avoid would be 'Ohana- for dinner -again, mediocre cold food and less than stellar service. Breakfast is totally different meal & of course character so can't really say if it's good/bad.

We were not impressed with Yachtsman's Steakhouse...have had better steaks at most of the non-signature Disney restaurants. If you have to have signature steak, I'd go to Citrico's or California Grille. If you're just looking for a signature place in Epcot vicinity, I'd go to Flying Fish over at Boardwalk (or Le Cellier dinner--different menu from lunch & dinner is signature. )

All the rest, we would return to...many of them we really like.

We have always had good experiences at the Coral Reef. In fact, it's the only restaurant we're returning to this trip (our other three ADRs are for places that are new to us). I would not be surprised if Coral Reef is sometimes uneven, but, at least in my experience, it was good. As PPs have said, if you had a bad experience at a restaurant, you're more likely to post/review. No sense in wasting energy worrying about it being bad before your trip!

I have to agree that my experiences at Hollywood & Vine in DHS haven't been bad, but not great either. The food is OK for a relatively high prices.

Unless your kids LOVE Lilo, I'd consider swapping the dinner and breakfast at CP and 'Ohana. Breakfast at CP is great and if you can snag an 8 a.m., pre-park opening ADR, all the better. You can literally get all of Fantasyland done by eleven! Also, there are more characters and great interaction at CP.

'Ohana has a great dinner, in my opinion, better than I would imagine any buffet would be (sorry not a big buffet fan for anything but breakfast and even then...)

Sci-Fi's food is pretty horrible. Very salty. Really fun atmosphere,though, and if you go in with low expectations, food-wise, it might be fun.

We stayed at the Beach Club this past summer and walked by Yachtsmen many times and it always looks very dark, quiet, and adult. Also, seems a bit redundant if you're also doing Le cellier. If you're looking for a signature in that area, I'd try Flying Fish. Much more upbeat, kid-friendly atmosphere.

And really no one I know has anything great to say about Coral Reef. There are better options in EPCOT, in my opinion. Via Napoli is fun, as is Teppan Edo. Lots of people have been very pleased with the new Mexican TS place, too.

I agree with PP, take a look at your credits again. The deluxe plan is a lot of money and kind of tough to be get your money's worth unless you do more signatures. We 've done it twice and the only time we were sucessful with it was for an adults-only trip where we did an breakfast or an early lunch and then a late dinner at a signature.

I'd try to use the dxdp a little more. I understand having some counter services available but you have a lot that I would try to add in.


Sat- I'd stay close to home instead of traveling just to eat and try Flying Fish

Sat- Whispering Canyon instead of Tony's (it would give you a nice park break without having to go back to room... nice boat ride) You still get in WC then.

Brown Derby instead of Sci Fi or H/V. I'd keep one and do Brown Derby for the other. We didn't like either meal. H/v was terrible so unless you are stuck for the characters (not sure at 6 if the Einsteins are a draw) get out.
