I think if SM was leaving the show it would've been announced by now. I just did a web search and couldn't find any rumors about him leaving. Have you heard anything official?
CBS has announced Sean Weatherly is leaving NCIS. If an actor as popular as SM was leaving CM, there would be a similar outcry. I really hope Derek is happily in love with his fiancé. He makes a fuss over Penelope, but she's sooo not his type!
Tonight's episode was quite weird, actually.
Trying again.
Not necessarily. When Will Gardner was killed off
The Good Wife, (also a CBS show,) it was the most surprising, shocking and unanticipated death of a lead actor, especially as it was NOT during sweeps weeks or the season finale. Exec producer, Julianne Margulies asked Josh Charles to stay several more episodes so they could resolve his story line a bit more, and for his leaving the show to not happen during those usual times.
The producers of the show credited the keeping of his death a secret was due to the great professionalism of the NYC cast & crew.
It could have been an accident that MGG told us that a cast member is leaving. However, it could ALSO be a great fake out, which I am still hoping for. Since executive producer/showrunner, Erica Messer took over, she has really made one of the main things about the show now, is that the epidoes have unexpected "twists."
Maybe Morgan does stay with the show, and Shemar's recent tweets showing him on vacation & MGG leaking that a cast member is leaving, are all a big, loooong fake out. MAYBE, he's on his honeymoon with Savannah the week he's not shown with the cast and he will be back.

That's something to hope for.
There's ALSO the possibility he still gets killed off. Just when we all think he's safe, this unsub kills him in 2 episodes after all.
But the way his father made it so painfully clear that the worst thing Derek can do to HIS own child is to have him grow up without him around, it seems more likely that Shemar is gearing up to leave the show, And Derek moves onto a job with less life & death risks. They never have done an episode where a profiler finally retires and what it takes for him to finally say he's had enough.
Professionally, for Shemar, 10 years is a long time to be one character,
especially for an absolutely gorgeous, deliciously sexy, alpha male actor. IF he wants to make the career jump and be cast in another series with the same casting, he has to do it soon, before his description becomes, "That's Shemar Moore?

Wow, he USED to look so hot."
