Criminal Minds -- DIS Official Thread 1 (SPOILERS!)

I caught that too. It was never mentioned again. :confused3

I read an interview with the producer this AM that said there was originally a line there. Reid was to say that he didn't think he needed to apply for a job that he already had or something to that effect. Matthew wanted to simply say "that's right" instead of giving up the line. She said that they want this season to be more character driven and one of the things they are doing is making Reid a little tougher. His character has a bit more edge.

As for his hair, I've never liked what they do to that boy's hair.

I love that they wrapped the whole story of getting the band back together in one shot so we can get back to the business of catching bad guys.

Morgan should be angry, and he and Hotch have an issue there. Morgan was head of the division for a while and it's like Hotch doesn't trust him enough to let him in on the Emily story. It seems that Dave was in on it-only Reid, Morgan and Garcia were on the outs. They've always had a little bit of pull and tug going on, this Emily thing may bring it out even more.

OK, but what happened to that whole story line about Strauss leaving for a while and Hotch taking over? Wasn't that the last episode last season? Why's she back and why was he in Pakistan? Or did I just miss something?

I found it kind of funny that Hotch was "leading a task force" in Pakistan because that's how Bin Laden got killed.

As for your question, I have no idea. I'm guessing that was supposed to be going on those 3 months when we didn't see them

I wasn't a huge fan of the first episode but I am very glad they cleaned up the whole Doyle story line in one episode so they could move on. I was hoping we didn't have another season-long story line that gets in the way of the weekly cases.

Yes, I liked that, too. I thought most of the episode might have been finding Doyle and we don't see Emily till the very end, or that it would be a two-parter.

I like how they can just get back to the cases the way they used to. It is what makes CM so good. In my estimation, season 4, before all the Reaper stuff, was the best season.

I still think Morgan will be more than angryes, he will have issues about not being told. Remember, his whole thing is about trusting people? That came out that episode at the youth center, where he was being framed for a murder of a teen boy by the man who molested him. He didn't even think he could trust his team when his own freedom was on the line.

And now, there is Hotch saying he couldn't let Morgan know to keep Emily safe? Morgan has always had Emily's back. When ever they go in a building after the unsub, those two are always paired as a team. He would be the last person to compromise her life or safety.

Who the heck was in charge when Hotch was on that assignment? Was it Morgan or Rossi?

It also didn't make sense to me that J.J. would be left out of the loop on a case, when Morgan & Garcia were discussing Doyle, and she'd be okay with that. It's J.J.'s job to field all the cases & bring them to the team. And there they were saying, no, we're looking this one over without you. :confused3

I agree...but I hope they don't have them spending all season with infighting. I like the band working together as a team, have an episode where Morgan and Hotch have some screaming fight-but have that fight resolve the issue and have them end up stronger for it.

When that Strauss storyline was written, Thomas Gibson hadn't finalized his contract with CBS/ABC yet. No one knew if he was coming back. I think the writers wanted to write as many ways to have Hotch leave as they could. Hence, Strauss needing Hotch to fill in for him at a higher level, which could turn out to be permanent, and his weird "assignment" which also could have become a permanent reassignment.

I don't know anything about the FBI, but it seems strange to me that the Unit Chief of the whole unit, not just one team, with all his interoffice demands and bureaucratic stuff he has to deal with, was the one who goes half way around the world on assignment. :confused3

This is the same office which was told in the season finale, that there would be budget cuts and reassignments. You'd think they'd need their ONE Unit Chief, sticking around being the Unit Chief. :scratchin While he was gone, they had to pay someone else to fill in as Unit Chief.

::yes:: Two minutes to hash it out in the next episode and be done with it.

Fighting with Morgan would force Hotch to deal with some of his emotion and that would be good for him. Although I do think I saw him smile a bit at the end there....

Hmm, instead, :scratchin when confronted, Hotch could just go into his "Hotch stare." He's trained himself to become less emotional the more he's emotionally confronted by unsubs and such.

Ha! Enough said! :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: :cool1:

CBS Press Release for the Ratings of Criminal Minds Episode 7.01

http://criminalmindsroundtable.blogspot.com/2011/09/cbs-press-release-for-ratings-for.html

"CBS WINS PREMIERE WEDNESDAY IN VIEWERS AGAINST HIGHLY-PROMOTED EVENTS ON THE COMPETITION

The Season Premiere of "Criminal Minds" Averages More Viewers Than "X-Factor,"
While Posting Gains in Adults 18-49 Over Last Year's Premiere

"CSI" Wins its New 10:00 PM Time Period in Viewers, Improving Upon the Year-Ago Time Period in Adults 18-49

"Survivor: South Pacific" Steady Against "X-Factor" and Comedy Premieres

CBS won premiere Wednesday in viewers against highly-promoted competition, as the season premiere of Criminal Minds topped "X-Factor" in viewers and gained in adults 18-49 versus last year, while CSI won in viewers and improved the time period in demos, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Sept. 21.

At 9:00 PM, Criminal Minds (P) was first in households (8.7/13), second in viewers (14.07m, -0.22m behind ABC [Modern Family]) and averaged a 5.0/11 in adults 25-54 and 4.1/10 in adults 18-49. Criminal Minds was up +1% in households (from 8.6/14) and +3% in adults 18-49 (from 4.0/11) compared to last year's season premiere. Criminal Minds topped "X-Factor" in the hour by over 1.5 million viewers (vs. 12.56m).

Criminal Minds posted its best delivery in viewers since April 6, 2011, in adults 25-54 since November 3, 2010 and in adults 18-49 since January 20, 2010.

At 10:00 PM, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (P) was first in households (7.8/13), viewers (12.59m), second in adults 25-54 (4.1/10, -0.1 behind ABC) and adults 18-49 (3.1/08). This was the time period's best delivery in viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 with regularly scheduled programming since February 10, 2010 (CSI: NY).

Earlier at 8:00 PM, SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC (P) was second in households (6.3/10), viewers (10.36m), adults 25-54 (4.2/11) and adults 18-49 (3.1/09).

For the night, CBS was first in households (7.6/11), viewers (12.34m) and averaged 4.4/11 in adults 25-54 and 3.5/09 in adults 18-49. This was the fifth time in six years CBS won premiere week Wednesday in viewers."

I guess people still prefer watching people being murdered to songs being murdered! Wait, there's something wrong with that statement.

I have to agree with the first episode....little boring but also glad they cleared all this up and so they can all move forward together.

I have no doubt it will continue to be better starting with next week....I'm looking forward to this season....:thumbsup2

Okay, finally saw the episode...

I think this wasn't one of the best, mostly because they had to (a) bring the team back together, plausibly; and (b) the contract negotiations w/TG meant they had uncertainty. I noticed that TG had scenes/lines that could have easily been omitted or said by someone else, had negotiations not gone favorably (for us, the viewers).

Beyond that, I'm glad to see them all back, and looking forward to some great story lines this season. And, would it be too much to ask to have a few nude scenes of Morgan? Just a few...like 47...

On that note, funny side story--Dh's company was hit by an arsonist this week. Because they're federally reguated, the feds are investigating. he's on strict orders that, if any agents show up, looking like Morgan, he's to let me know. You know, in case they need someone to wipe the sweat from their brow, that sort of thing. Okay, I think I'm a creepy stalker.

 I wonder, would you need an assistant?

I will keep you in mind! Of course, knowing my luck, the arson investigators will be Nerd Central--and not in the cute, MGG way, either.

I probably shouldn't make light of the arson, it's a big deal. But of course, the first thing that popped into my head when DH said "it's been turned over to the feds" was the hot Criminal Minds guys.

Can someone tell me why ION television runs the same episodes over and over? Good Lord, I have seen the "serial killer in the diner" episode so many times it's not even funny. Even making the assumption that they can't get Season 6 yet, they still have FIVE other seasons they can pull from!

Ok, I feel better now. Thank you.

Yes, I keep wishing & hoping they'd turn this show more into True Blood. We need some excuses for nudie Morgan scenes. Maybe like he had to rip off his shirt to staunch the blood on a victim. . . :rolleyes1

That, and they show the exact same episodes the next nite on A&E. Are they across the street from each other? Do they just have an assistant walk over and hand the DVD from last nite's show to the other network to air? :confused3 There are roughly 150 episodes. One station can't air season 1 while the other airs season 4?

I tried Netflix and Hulu plus, neither of them have Criminal Minds on streaming. Is CBS just not putting them out there?

I'm almost ready to buy Apple TV and purchase the seasons for that.

CM is actually produced by ABC. Somewhere along the lines, the ball got dropped on contract negotiations for CBS being able to do very much with the show it seems, from showing episodes on the CBS website, or I guess airing on Netflix and Hulu Plus. Since the show doesn't air on ABC, they don't seem to particularly care where else it's NOT showing. :sad2:

It's absolutely amazing that the show has done so well to have made it to seven seasons. Their own producers nearly killed the show with arbitrary cast changes last season.

It is a constantly overlooked show in the Emmys and in any promotion of the show. Current episodes don't re-air online. (Except by a rogue YouTube fan.)

Even with Modern Family walking away with 5 Emmys last week, more households turned in to see how the team would be put back together. :yay:

Entertainment Tonight has some personal vendetta against the show. Someone here posted an article a couple years ago, in which the writer absolutely slammed the show, especially the actors, in what seemed to be personal way. (Maybe he auditioned for the show and didn't get in? :confused3 ) ET goes out of their way to over-promote the NCIS, CSI & Hawaii 5-0 shows each week, and never has a blurb on CM. The times they say what's airing each nite, they will always skip over the CBS Wed nite line-up. :rolleyes1

EntertainmentWeekly.com
has had to start promoting the show this last season because they had a contest for the most "Under-appreciated Entertainer of the Year," and due to a a tremendous Twitter campaign by CM fans, Thomas Gibson won! :dance3:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=39167123&postcount=572

EntertainmentWeekly.com
finally realized the power of CM's fan base  as their readers and now has weekly blurbs on the show.

The People's Choice Award didn't even have CM listed as one of the possibilities for nomination choices for "Favorite TV Crime Show," until another massive Twitter campaign made them list CM, and we got them a nomination.

A few months ago, the TV execs at ABC or CBS didn't want to pay Thomas Gibson what he was worth and completely stopped negotiating with his agent for weeks. Meanwhile, they had paid drug addict Charlie Sheen millions. I'll bet Ashton Kutcher has a healthy salary. :rolleyes1

I was worried that over-saturation of the show airing on ION & A&E so much would kill the desire to watch the new episodes. Instead, even on this thread, more people end up watching the series. :thumbsup2

This show has made it because of us viewers, in spite of everything. :woohoo:

More like True Blood is an EXCELLENT idea. :thumbsup2
