I really want a cricut for Christmas. Do you think it is worth the price if I am not a scrapbooker? I want to personalize everything. Any thoughts would be appreciated.:santa:

Well, I scrapbook so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but if you can afford it, go for it. I do use my cricut a lot for home decor projects. I just made a Thanksgiving banner similar tothis one and I'll be cutting out some vinyl butterfly's to put on a wall in my eldest Dd's room today. My girls make cuts for school projects. I make party decorations/supplies, cards, etc.

But keep in mind, the cricut doesn't really cut smaller then an inch or so very well. So if you want a lot of small cuts like that, it might not be the machine for you.

I've heard that Best Buy will be having the small (original) Cricut with 2 cartridges (George and Just Because Cards) on sale on BF for $59 (I think it was) That's a pretty good deal.

I am not a scrapbooker either, but about 2 years ago I purchased one. Well, after checking it out, realized I would not get enough use out of it for what I paid. So, I returned it. I don't know if it would be different for you. Do you think this is something you will continue doing or quickly get bored with?:confused3

Well I'm a scrapbooker, but I don't use it so much for scrapbooking as I do for classroom materials and decorations.

I bought one 3 years ago and sold it a few weeks ago after realizing I haven't used it in the last year. I made a lot of vinyl for my house & other things but after awhile, it started costing too much (cartridges, blades, mats, paper, vinyl, etc.)

I'm a scrapbooker/card maker and don't use mine at all; I find it a pain to drag out, set up and use for one small project at a time. I would not use it for home decor.

If my HR staff didn't "borrow" it at work to make cuts for the employee bulletin boards, I'd probably get rid of it.

Amazon has the cricut cake in red right now for $69.95. If you just change the housing you can ise it for paper. That is the best deal I have ever seen.

Can you elaboratae on the cake thing. Would it cost anything to change it over for household use?

Could you elaborate on the cake cricut, does it cost to switch for household use?

Wow...I just went to see how much a new blade and housing would cost, which by the way is $30 and the cricut website has the cricut cake for $49.95. It is the same machine and takes the same cartridges, just the cake blade and housing is set up to cut fondant and dough. If you replace it with the regular housing and blade, there are some slight differences, but it does the same.

:thumbsup2Thanks for the insight. I am watching BF ads to see what deals they are having. I am also a teacher, so I could use it for my class as well.

Jo Anns has the expression for 159 on bf which is a steal, it offers 12 bt 12 cutting and has a repeat button, so youre not pressing one image button 50 times as well as allowing you to flip an image in either direction. If you have a classroom i would recommend the expression

Tink and Bells mom What font is that in the banner?? Cute!

I have mine and to be honest don't use it a lot. I just drug it out of storage and made some cute vinyl lettering to go with some family photos.

I am a scrapper, so take it with a grain of salt, but I LOVE my cricut! I scrap, make carts, personalize things, and make clothing for the family with it. I use it on a daily/weekly basis.

Can I hijack the thread then?

What are your favorite carts to use. I get over whelmed looking at them and I know there will be lots of sales this weekend.

I really like the font that the previous poster used.

Also what clothing do you make??? Have any pics? I love ideas!

I personally Love my:
Life's a beach
Mickey and Friends
Mickey Font
Winnie pooh and Friends
Pooh and Friends Font.
A Vacation themed one I picked up few years ago.

A lot of my fellow scrappers like The paper dolls carts.

AFAIK, that's not actually a cricut font. Sorry! That blogger has her own vinyl business and she uses some other cutter for. But I used Storybook for my font.

My favorite carts are
Lyrical Letters (7 different fonts on one cart)
Mickey Font (a nice chunky font that I use for things other than Disney too)
Pooh Font
Storybook
Hello Kitty Greetings (I use this one a lot for vinyl decor for my girls' rooms)
and Alphalicious

I am not a scrapbooker either but, I do a lot of paper crafting like cards and I use it to cut out freezer paper to make screenprint tee shirts. I got it when you could get a computer program to connect it to but, they made them stop selling it now. If I were to get one now I would go for the Silhouette machine instead. You probably won't find a great deal on it like you can the cricut but, you don't have to buy cartridges you just run it off your computer.

I have had a original cricut for 3 or 4 years and i'm scared of it :lmao: Still havent figured out how to work it, but that hasnt stopped me from collecting the cartridges :rotfl:

Maybe someday soon i can figure it out so i can justify asking for an expression. Believe it or not i'm a big scrapbooker so i'm sure i would love it if i could figure it out, but them booklets that come with it just scare me.
