I have been scrapbooking for a little while but have been busy with other things lately. I have seen posts about the Cricut system and am interested in it. Can someone give me the gist of the type of things you can do with this system? What kind of things do I initially need to purchase?

Thanks!!

My friend has one; it's portable and uses cartridges, you can have shapes and letters/numbers and the machine will make a die cut for you in various sizes. It's around $200-$250 online or at Walmart and other stores. You also have to buy cartridges if you want different shapes and fonts which can be around $60 on sale or up to $90.

You should research Wishblade or Robocraft before you decide though because although the initial investment is higher ($400+), you don't have to keep buying cartridges to get more shapes etc. Note, this is NOT portable but works with your computer.

I agree with Amy in that you should research what exactly you would want you die cut machine to do. Would you want it to be portable, extremly user friendly? Would you mind having to buy cartridges ($60-$90) for each font you have? Where do you do most of your scrapbooking, at home or at crops? Check out 2 peas b/c they have tons of comparison thread Cricut and Wishblades.

BTW-The wishblade uses it's own program, not Word. It does use any of the fonts you have installed on your computer, though.

I have the cricut and love it. I looked into the wishblade and Robocraft and yes they are both a wonderful system (they are I believe the same system) but I was looking for something NOT to connect to my computer. I wanted something at my fingertips on my scrapbook counter.

I am having so much fun with it. I really do love it.

Cricut had so many problems when they 1st came on the market but Provo Craft back every single one of them and sent out replacement machines to anyone who had a problem (me included)

I only buy cartridges on sale and have never paid more then $50.00. I have 6 cartridges I am very happy with.

Go to the Cricut web page they have a great forum

Just wanted to second nealymouse's post. I LOVE my Cricut! I have the George/Basic Shapes cartridge (the one that came with it) and the Doodlecharms cartridge. It is very easy to use, and I can keep it on the table in my scrap room instead of being tied to the computer.

My friend has a craft robo, and it is really cool, too. I am really sold on my cricut, though!! :teeth:

Thank you all for your advice! I think I am just about sold on getting a Cricut now! Only problem is that I don't think I can be patient enough to wait for Christmas! Looks like I'll be shopping this week! :cool1:

Carla, The ideas from the cricut are endless. I love printing out letters, just type in the words you want and presto there they are. and in any size you want fron 1/2 inch to 5 inch.

I was looking to print out the word BEACH SHOPS for our Dom Rep vacation. I wanted to use the picture of the beach shops for the letters so I printed off a 5x7 on my reg printer and cut a strip from it to run threw my cricut. Well I ended up using the reverse paper not the cut out letters ( I hope you understand what im trying to say LOL) well it ended up being so cool looking, My friends and family were very "impressed" at how good I am LOL it was the crucut not me LOL LOL
The cricut took all the work out of it and made a straight BEACH line. Really cool.

My kids love it. They have to ask but I never say no. My DD has done a school project with it and I have used it for our Girl scout troop.

I love it !!!!!! I got it at AC Moore with a 40% off coupon

Wow Beth, I totally understand and LOVE that idea!!! I will definitely have to give that a try- awesome!!

I knew I couldn't wait long... just got back from JoAnn's with my Cricut :cool1: ! Can't wait to read up and get started!! They had it for $189 and I was able to use all three Merry Moolah coupons so an extra $30 off! Yay!!! I'm sure I'll be here with lots of questions after I get started!!
