I am new to using the cricut machine, I have purchased the Happily Ever After and the Mickey and Friends cartridges and also Where Dreams Come True, I can not figure out how to do the layering, can someone please explain it to me in easy terms. I am just confused. Like I was trying to do Ariel, so I did the black first and then went to do the flesh, well the flesh paper doesn't stick plus it cut her flesh in the wrong place. So just not sure, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.:goodvibes

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand the part about the flesh paper doesn't stick. You mean it doesn't stick to the mat?

Each piece of the picture has to be cut separately and then assembled. So, for example, if you were doing Ariel on page 29 of the Dreams Come True book, you'd cut Ariel out by pressing the Ariel button on its own on whatever color paper you want to use for the base. Then you'd do the flesh part by putting flesh colored paper on your mat and pressing the layers:flesh/hair key and then the Ariel button, the flesh would be cut. Then put the red paper on for her hair, be sure the layers:flesh/hair key is still lit up, then press shift then the Ariel button to cut the hair. Then use purple paper and press layers:outfit/outfit then press Ariel to cut her shirt (for lack of a better word). Then put aqua paper on your mat, keep layers: outfit/outfit lit up then press shift then the ariel button to cut out the bow for her hair.

When you look at the different sections of the booklet, each little square has two pictures. The lower left picture is cut by having that feature lit up and hitting the button. The upper right picture is cut by having that feature lit up AND pressing shift before you press the key.

Thank you so much!!!:goodvibes I got it!!!:thumbsup2 I made an Ariel, the only thing is, how do you keep all your parts together, do you glue them?? I wasn't sure??? Some of the pieces are so tiny. So was just wondering how you hold it all together. :goodvibes

If I can, I use paper that already has adhesive on the back, like the Die Cuts With a View mat stacks that have adhesive. Another brand I use is Quickuts. These are perfect for the small pieces you cut with the Cricut. Otherwise, I use xyron machines for adhering most things. The Xyron 150 is really great for tiny pieces.

I also have a layering question. Let's take one of the Mickey's from the Mickey & Friends cart for instance. How do you get the really small pieces in place?? Like Mickey's eyes, pupils, and tongue?? How does all this work???

For things like eyes and tongues, I'd paint them on with a pen or paint and a fine brush.

I use Zig glue pens to glue the small pieces. I always cut the base piece first, then lay all the pieces out on the base and glue once I have everything cut. Just be very careful with the little pieces. Nothing is more frustrating then putting your machine away and noticing that a little eye piece has gone missing.

I hold the tiny pieces with tweezers to place them after I Zig pen the back with glue. I haven't done a lot of the tiny stuff, though.....I am simply not that patient:).

Where can you find the paper with adhesive on the back?? I am thinking that might be the way to go with layering, I tried using a glue stick, that didn't work so well. Also what is the xyron machine?? Thanks.:)

I cut out all the pieces in all the different colors and then I place all of them (except the black/back piece) onto sheets of dry-bond adhesive (which I got at ACMoore and I've seen on QVC). After I've cut all the pieces and put them on the dry-bond sheets, I peel them off with the multi-purpose tool from Creative Memories and position them onto the black/back piece.

This also helps me NOT lose any of those little buggers!
