Crib vs pack and play?

I am renting from orlando crib rentals. They bring it AND set it up. Very helpful over the phone and very reasonably priced for crib and bedding. When I spoke to them they were in the process of upgrading all cribs, so the photo on website wasn't accurate, but she took me to a link to show me what we would have.

Our DS does not like to sleep or even sit in a pack-n-play. He just tosses and turns all night because he is so used to having a crib to move around in. We stayed at the Contemporary in September and requested a tried and true crib for our room. I called over and over again just to be sure that we would have a crib, not a pnp. I was assured there would be one in our room. We packed our own crib sheets and DS breathable bumper to make it more like home. When we arrived my DSIL had a crib in her room but our room had a pnp. I asked the CM to find a crib since we were guaranteed one and they did everything they could to find it. Finally a mousekeeper came with the crib looking at me like I was nuts. He told me that he had to go to a storage unit at another Disney hotel to get this crib and not to let it out of my sight!

I was so thankful because I knew DS would sleep so much better. If you are staying on property I know they have them but it can be hard to track one down. Just be persistant. Our crib was metal with high ends and fixed sides. DS slept like a dream every night! I didn't feel weird about borrowing the crib (knowing all the stories behind bad cribs) because there were no drop-down sides and DH checked all the screws and parts before we put DS in it.

That loks nicer than the one I saw at the poly!

My youngest was 2 months shy of being 3 years old and he slept fine in the pack and play when we were there in May.

It was a nice crib. We brought the bumper from home so he probably thought he was in his own bed. It had nice high sides and a nice mattress. Way better than some we've seen in other hotels outside of WDW. It doesn't hurt to ask around. The cribs are there, you just have to find someone that is willing to keep looking for it. When I saw the pic of the one you had I showed my husband and said so much for not having real cribs on the property, right? :rotfl:

Wow... The valuable info on the boards is always incredible! I had no idea that a service like A Babys Best Friend was available. That is a great option. Our DS will be 18.5 months on our trip in May as well and he will most likely sleep with us. We tried the PNP in December and he would not sleep in it. I would go with a crib if that is what he is used to sleeping comfortably in:)

Last year I had the same type of crib at SSR. I did have to make a few calls...but it was worth it. I also got a high chair, too, which helped with breakfast in the room. I am going to make the same requests this April...I hope that they are still available.

Thank you all again for your advice. We went to the Mall of America for the last two nights and tried DS in a pack and play. he hasnt been in it since last summer and well, he would NOT sleep in it!!! No way. It definitly confirmed that renting the crib was the best thing to do. He seemed so happy tonight to be going to bed back in his own crib with his aquarium!

I'm assuming by his aquarium you mean the one that attaches to the crib and plays music. Just wanted to tell you that ABBF also rents those as well. I ordered one of those with the crib b/c that is what my duaghter is used to at home. HTH

I have an 20mth who's been attempting to climb out of her crib and pack n play ever since she was around 15mths , so I don't know if I'd even bother. (we had to put a safety tent on top her crib). If I were going back now, I'd just get the bed rails and let her sleep with me. But every kid is different.

DD slept in a pack and play at Disney at 2 years, 2 months and again at 3 years, 2 months. She loved her crib at home, and she was in it until she was almost 4. I think that it just depends on the kid, but I wouldn't rule out a pack and play simply because you have an older "baby".

DS who is 2 yrs 3months loves his crib at home and has never tried to climb out of it (yet :rotfl: ) He uses a pack and play whenever we travel and as long as he fits in it and is happy, we won't attempt a bed until he is ready. We have rented from A Baby's Best Friend for other baby items before and were very happy with the company. Good luck with your decision.:goodvibes
