Does anyone use CreditKarma.com? The website states you can get your credit score for free. I say ya can't get nothin' for free. Is there a catch?

TIA,
Debbie

You can get A credit score that can be +/- 100 from your real FICO which can only be purchased from myfico.com Its a free score, just not your correct/accurate FICO score.

I have used CreditKarma for DW's and my scores for about 9 months now, since seeing it on Clark Howard's website. The scores have been accurate, when we have gone to apply for credit. There is no catch, the site is full of ads for secured cards and others, but it's not pushy. I've had no pop-ups. They are also soft-credit pulls, similar to when you apply for insurance, so checking your credit score on CreditKarma does not lower your score.

I'm puzzled as to how they manage to look at full reports so that they can create a score and yet the inquiries are categorized as soft. How do they manage to do that?

Karma. Ha. ;)

Never had a problem with them either.

Both 'hard' and 'soft' credit inquiries have access to the same information. The difference between the two is their intent. 'Hard' inquiries are counted only during an application for credit, such as when you apply for a credit card, bank loan, or even a cell phone. 'Soft' inquiries are not counted against your score, and are for instances such as you pulling your credit, an insurance company determining risk, or a credit card company performing a 'pre-screen' to solicit sales in direct mailings.

In the 9 months we've been monitoring, our score has gone up by 30 points, so I can safely say that these are 'soft' pulls.
